At Bluefors, we’re enabling breakthroughs in quantum technology and scientific research through the world’s leading cryogenic measurement systems and dilution refrigerators. As quantum computers scale up, understanding how the cryogenic environment and control hardware affect qubits becomes ever more important. Our modelling work connects these worlds, from heat flow in a dilution refrigerator to the behaviour of a single qubit.
We are looking for a Trainee for Cryogenic and Quantum Modelling to join our Quantum and Measurement Team. In this role, you’ll help develop theoretical and numerical models that link the thermal, mechanical, and quantum aspects of our systems. Your work will support customer projects, research and development, and Bluefors’ scientific publications.
This is a 12-month fixed-term trainee position.
We’re looking for someone with strong foundations in physics and numerical methods, real depth in at least one of our modelling areas, and the curiosity to learn the others. You’ll work alongside experienced physicists and engineers who will support your development throughout the year.
We offer you an interesting, challenging, and responsible position, supported by a highly skilled and growing organization. It’s an excellent opportunity for professional growth in a dynamic, enthusiastic, and professional team where we work together and support each other. Our working environment is multicultural and leaves room to grow, so you can use your full potential and keep developing your skills.
Main responsibilities:
Help develop theoretical and numerical models that connect three areas:
Thermal modelling of dilution refrigerators, from heat loads to helium mixture behaviour at millikelvin temperatures
Mechanical and thermal integration of control components for quantum computing (e.g., wiring, filters and amplifiers)
Hamiltonian and open quantum system descriptions of how the cryogenic environment and control hardware affect qubit operation
Run simulations that support customer projects and business operations
Use your modelling work to support research and development (R&D) projects
Contribute to scientific publications that Bluefors authors
What we expect from you
Ongoing or recently completed studies in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or another relevant field
A solid foundation in physics
Experience with numerical methods, especially solving partial differential equations (PDEs)
Programming skills in Python and experience with Git
Strength in at least one of the following areas:
Heat transfer and thermal simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), or cryogenic or low-temperature physics
Multiphysics and finite element modelling
Open quantum systems, or tools such as QuTip (Quantum Toolbox in Python) or Sc qubits
Excellent scientific writing skills in English
We also appreciate
An existing publication record
Experience with Julia
Circuit simulation with SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) or Qucs (Quite Universal Circuit Simulator)
Machine learning applied to scientific problems, such as surrogate models or data-driven simulation
Good practices in software testing and documentation
Experience with computing infrastructure, such as GPU (graphics processing unit) workstations
A public GitHub or GitLab repository showing numerical modelling or scientific software
Please apply as soon as possible, on November 12, 2026, at the latest through our recruitment system at BLUEFORS.COM. We will review applications on an ongoing basis, and the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
