Trial Attorney

California | Remote with Periodic In-Office Presence in Costa Mesa

Aspire General Insurance Company and its affiliated general agent, Aspire General Insurance Services, are on a mission to deliver affordable specialty auto insurance without compromising outstanding service.

At Aspire, our values are ABLE:

  • Always do the right thing
  • Be yourself
  • Learn and evolve
  • Execute

We are looking for a skilled Trial Attorney to join our Legal team and provide high-quality representation to Aspire's insureds in personal auto insurance litigation throughout California.

The Opportunity

  • The Trial Attorney will handle a diverse caseload involving personal injury and property damage matters, managing cases from inception through resolution, trial, and appeal when necessary.
  • This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced California attorney who enjoys litigation and trial work while also valuing the flexibility of a primarily remote environment.
  • The position reports to the Managing Trial Attorney and is primarily remote within California, with periodic travel to our Costa Mesa office as business needs require.
  • One of the biggest advantages of this opportunity: there are no minimum billing requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Represent insured clients throughout all stages of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Manage cases from inception through resolution and trial, including evaluating liability, damages, exposure, and litigation strategy.
  • Develop and execute legal strategies in partnership with Claims while protecting the interests of our insureds.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
  • Take and defend depositions and conduct oral arguments.
  • Negotiate settlements when appropriate and develop cost-effective resolution strategies.
  • Provide timely litigation updates, risk assessments, and exposure analysis to Claims.
  • Advise Claims and other internal stakeholders on litigation and legal matters.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with insured clients, Claims partners, opposing counsel, and other parties.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance to paralegals, legal assistants, and law clerks as needed.
  • Represent the company when appropriate in small claims matters, court hearings, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.

What We're Looking For:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the State Bar of California and in good standing.
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, preferably within insurance defense or personal auto litigation.
  • Demonstrated experience with discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Strong knowledge of California civil litigation procedures, insurance law, and trial advocacy.
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume litigation caseload.
  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to effectively evaluate liability, damages, exposure, and litigation strategy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Claims professionals and other internal partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful first-chair or significant trial experience.
  • Personal auto insurance defense experience.
  • Experience handling bodily injury and property damage litigation.
  • Familiarity with electronic case management and court filing systems.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily remote within California.
  • Periodic travel to Aspire's Costa Mesa office will be required based on business needs.
  • No minimum billing requirements.
  • Additional travel may be required for depositions, mediations, hearings, arbitrations, trials, and other case-related matters.
  • Fast-paced, highly collaborative, paperless work environment.
  • Ability to perform computer-based work for extended periods and occasionally transport case materials for court proceedings.
