IT STARTS HERE
Santander (www.santander.com) is evolving from a global, high-impact brand into a technology-driven organisation, and our people are at the heart of this journey. Together, we are driving a customer-centric transformation that values bold thinking, innovation, and the courage to challenge what’s possible.
This is more than a strategic shift. It’s a chance for driven professionals to grow, learn, and make a real difference.
Our mission is to contribute to help more people and businesses prosper. We embrace a robust risk culture and all our professionals at all levels are expected to take a proactive and responsible approach toward risk management.
Risk & Compliance plays a critical role in protecting Santander, our customers and our communities by providing independent oversight, challenge and assurance. We enable the business to achieve its strategic objectives while maintaining excellent governance, effective risk management and a culture of accountability.
THE DIFFERENCE YOU’LL MAKE
Risk & Compliance is looking for a Senior Manager, TSB Compliance & Conduct Risk Oversight based out of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Milton Keynes or existing TSB sites for TSB colleagues. On a 12-month secondment, providing maternity leave cover for the current role holder.
We’re looking for an experienced risk professional to join us on a 12-month secondment as TSB Senior Manager, Compliance & Conduct Risk Oversight.
This is a leadership role, supporting TSB's SMF16 under the agreed Service Information Form, to provide independent insight, assurance and challenge across TSB risks, so that the most significant compliance and conduct risks are understood and managed effectively and, critically, that we act to deliver good outcomes for our customers as TSB integrates into Santander UK.
You’ll work with senior stakeholders across all lines of defence in both TSB and Santander UK, providing clear and insightful assurance to TSB's Executive and Board and helping maintain positive and effective relationships with our regulators. You’ll also lead and develop a high-performing team, creating an environment of high challenge and high support. You'll effectively lead and support TSB heritage colleagues as they transition into Santander UK.
We’re shaping the way we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration and the freedom to explore new ideas. To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for:
- Lead TSB's Compliance & Conduct Risk Oversight activity, shaping the strategy, objectives, outcomes and KPIs and ensuring our resources are focused on the areas of greatest risk and customer impact.
- Design and deliver a risk-based oversight plan, using risk assessments, risk profile data, professional judgement and emerging insight to determine where independent assurance will add the greatest value.
- Lead thematic and targeted reviews, assessing the design and operation of controls and the effectiveness of first line risk management, including collaborating with other second line teams to deliver integrated assurance where appropriate.
- Provide effective independent challenge of first line activities, including the embedding of TSB’s Risk Management and Compliance Frameworks, compliance with regulatory requirements, risk appetite, incident management, root cause analysis and remediation.
- Turn complex findings into clear insight, delivering high-quality reporting at Executive and Board level and ensuring significant issues are identified, communicated and tracked through to resolution.
- Own TSB’s Compliance Framework Policy and its associated accountabilities, including drafting the SMF16 annual compliance opinion for Board review.
- Support key regulatory activities, including TSB’s annual CASS audit attestation and activities supporting SMF16 responsibilities.
- Use data and analytics to generate insight, identify emerging themes and strengthen the quality of our oversight, recommendations and decision-making.
- Maintain a forward-looking perspective, providing insight and challenge on horizon, strategic and business risks and the effectiveness of associated controls.
- Build excellent relationships across TSB and Santander UK, and externally, supporting an effective risk culture and helping to build and sustain constructive regulatory and industry relationships.

LOCAL COMPLIANCE

We’re committed to creating a recruitment experience that’s accessible, fair and welcoming for all candidates.
We want our people to thrive — at work and at home — while delivering the best outcomes for our customers and supporting each other to grow.
To make this possible, our roles are site-based with a hybrid working pattern, where colleagues are expected to attend the office at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).
When applying, please consider the travel distance, time and cost to your chosen office location(s).
We welcome applications on the understanding that, should you be offered this role, there may be no relocation package available. Santander will pay the employer mandatory government fees that are required to pay in connection with visa sponsorship. You may be liable for your own personal employee immigration and relocation costs (only applicable for roles eligible for sponsorship).
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS:
SECONDMENT OR FTC ROLES:
- If you are currently employed by Santander UK plc on TSB Legacy terms and choose to apply for this Santander fixed term vacancy, please be aware that, if successful, you will move onto full Santander terms and conditions of employment and will no longer be part of the TSB Legacy population with effect from the start date of your new role. Please also note that if the role you accept is a secondment role, this change will also apply to your substantive/home role (i.e. the role to which you would normally return at the end of your secondment): you will no longer be TSB Legacy for either your secondment role or your substantive/home role with effect from the start date of the secondment role. If you have any questions about what this means, you should raise them during the application process or log a ticket with Ask HR.
- If you are currently employed by TSB and the role you accept is a secondment role (rather than a fixed term contract), this will not impact the terms and conditions of your substantive/home role (and you will remain employed by TSB on your current terms and conditions until your employment transfers to Santander under TUPE).
