This position has a term of one year plus a day with the possibility of extension. Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton. Reporting to the Manager, Student Services, the Student Services Advisors provide superior student services to undergraduate Engineering students. Specific responsibilities are to administer the admission and transfer credit processes for domestic and international applications, provide academic advisement for undergraduate students, including first-year, evaluate academic standing and facilitate convocation procedures within the Faculty of Engineering. The incumbent(s) work independently within the student services team, and contribute to the service, enrollment management and community outreach goals of the Faculty of Engineering. Student Advising and Program Management Advises current and prospective students and staff about university and faculty policies and procedures regarding admission, registration, program planning, program completion, convocation including Iron Ring, course withdrawals, academic standing, grades, deferred exams; advising is conducted verbally and in writing (in-person and e-advising). Advises and coaches students regarding larger life issues such as health, isolation, financial stress and career planning; refers students with severe personal difficulties to the appropriate professional counselors and/or agencies on campus. Provide students with information about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions. Interprets and communicates calendar regulations. Processing applications for program admission from inquiry to decision stage. Conduct admission reporting, including collecting and analyzing data to inform the decision making process. Undergraduate degree with at least 2 years of experience in higher education, student services, or a client-facing environment, with a focus on student advising, admissions, records, or program administration. Demonstrated experience or training in supporting at-risk students. Exceptional written, oral, and public speaking skills, paired with strong intercultural competence, tact, and diplomacy. Proven ability to prioritize high-volume tasks under tight deadlines. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work independently as well as part of an integrated team and demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality when working with highly sensitive information. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of UofA academic policies and procedures. Experience with student administration system technology (PeopleSoft – Campus Solutions, Slate, and Alfresco).
