Role Description The Urban Designer / Senior Urban Designer / Urban Design Manager is responsible for leading and contributing to urban design projects from concept through implementation in a remote, collaborative environment. Day-to-day tasks include developing site plans, public realm concepts, and master plans; preparing visualizations, diagrams, and presentations that clearly communicate design intent; and coordinating with internal team members and external partners such as planners, architects, and community stakeholders. The role involves conducting contextual and spatial analysis, integrating mobility, public space, and environmental considerations, and translating them into feasible design solutions. The team member will also support or lead stakeholder engagement, contribute to design guidelines and policy documents, and manage project timelines and deliverables appropriate to their level (Urban Designer, Senior Urban Designer, or Urban Design Manager). This is a remote role with regular virtual collaboration and occasional coordination across time zones.
Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Urban Planning and Comprehensive Planning, with the ability to translate policy, zoning, and community needs into coherent urban design frameworks.
  • Professional experience in Architecture and Urban design, including the ability to develop and review site layouts, massing studies, and built-form strategies.
  • Background or demonstrated collaboration in Landscape Architecture, with skills in public realm design, streetscapes, open space networks, and green infrastructure concepts.
  • Proficiency in design and visualization tools (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, SketchUp, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite) and ability to produce clear drawings, graphics, and reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas to diverse audiences and prepare professional reports and presentations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities, with attention to detail and commitment to equitable, inclusive, and sustainable urban environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple deadlines, and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Relevant degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field; advanced degree or significant experience is preferred for Senior/Manager levels.
