JD:
We're seeking a hands-on Principal Experience Designer who can transform complicated enterprise systems and fragmented workflows into coherent, intuitive, and intelligent experiences. You'll help people navigate interconnected applications, information, and decisions with greater clarity and confidence, replacing disconnected steps with experiences that preserve context as work moves between tasks and systems.
This role combines experience architecture, sophisticated interaction design, and exploration of AI-enabled capabilities. You'll establish design direction while personally creating detailed interfaces and realistic prototypes. Working with Product Management, Engineering, Experience Research, Content Design, and fellow designers, you'll take challenging problems from ambiguity to solutions ready to build.
This is a senior individual contributor role, not a people-management or AI-model-development position.
What You'll Do:
- Architect connected experiences. Understand how users, tasks, data, application states, and business processes interact. Model end-to-end workflows across systems and define coherent experience structures that reduce friction without hiding necessary complexity. Balance patterns that scale across products with the distinct needs of different users.
- Own design from concept to implementation. Independently frame ambiguous problems, explore alternatives, and develop interaction models, high-fidelity interfaces, realistic prototypes, and specifications that Engineering can implement. Stay engaged through development to resolve interaction details and protect the intended experience.
- Design sophisticated behavior, not isolated screens. Resolve complex multi-step interactions and decision points, including permissions, contextual information, loading and empty states, confirmations, errors, and recovery.
- Shape trustworthy intelligent interactions. Design contextual assistance, recommendations, and automation with clear boundaries for what systems explain, suggest, request, or do. Explain system actions, supporting evidence, and uncertainty while preserving appropriate user review, approval, and control.
- Validate what works. Use research, usability evaluation, prototyping, and product feedback to challenge assumptions, refine designs, and improve comprehension, task effectiveness, and user confidence.
- Influence product and experience direction. Partner across disciplines to shape design priorities, resolve complex tradeoffs, and establish architectural approaches and interaction patterns that improve experiences across teams and products.
What You'll Bring
Principal-level ownership and execution. A portfolio demonstrating Principal-level impact across complex product experiences, including personally executed interaction design, experience architecture, and influence beyond individual features.
Advanced interaction design craft. Expertise with Figma or comparable professional design and prototyping tools, including the ability to communicate complete behavior through high-fidelity, interactive prototypes and accessible, visually coherent interfaces.
Systems thinking and experience architecture. Demonstrated ability to model relationships among users, tasks, information, dependencies, and application states, then turn those models into clear, scalable experiences.
Complex enterprise software experience. A track record designing information-rich business applications involving multiple roles, interconnected workflows, decision points, and technical constraints.
Human-centered design judgment. Ability to reason about complex and intelligent system behaviors, including recommendations, automation, transparency, accessibility, user control, and error recovery.
Research-informed problem solving and influence. Experience using evidence to evaluate solutions, collaborating closely with Product and Engineering, and making sound design decisions independently in ambiguous environments.
Your demonstrated expertise and portfolio matter more than a particular degree or career path.
Experience That Sets You Apart:
- Designing generative AI, conversational, agentic, or adaptive product experiences.
- Creating analytical workspaces, dashboards, data exploration, or decision-support interfaces.
- Working with CRM, sales operations, customer success, finance, or internal productivity workflows.
- Applying knowledge of APIs, integrations, data structures, and application state to design decisions.
- Building coded or AI-assisted prototypes, extending design systems, or measuring workflow outcomes.
- Prior generative AI product experience is valuable, not required. Strong interaction fundamentals and judgment matter more than familiarity with a particular technology.
What Success Looks Like:
You'll translate ambiguous, interconnected problems into clear experience architecture and actionable direction. You'll personally deliver sophisticated prototypes and build-ready designs that account for real system behavior, validate solutions with evidence, and make demanding workflows easier to understand and use. Your work will earn cross-functional trust and improve consistency across related experiences.
The right designer combines the perspective to understand an entire system with the craft and accountability to make its individual interactions work exceptionally well.
