Want a planning role where no two days are the same?

We're recruiting a Utilities Works Planner to join an established, family-run civil engineering and utilities business in Kidlington.

You'll be joining a supportive planning team of six, coordinating daily works across utilities, civils and reinstatement throughout the Thames Valley.

The role is busy and hands-on, with a strong focus on communication, organisation and making sure the right teams have the right jobs, information and materials to get the work done.

In return, you'll receive a competitive basic salary of £34,000£40,000, paid overtime at time and a half, comprehensive benefits and the opportunity to work from home 12 days a week once fully trained.

What's on offer?

  • Potential to earn an additional £7,000£8,000+ annually through overtime

  • Overtime paid at time and a half

  • 12 days working from home once established in the role

  • 25 days annual leave plus eight bank holidays

  • Five enhanced sick pay/mental health days at full pay

  • 5% employee pension contribution and 3% employer contribution

  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme

  • Full training and one-to-one support

  • Opportunities to develop and progress within the wider business

Weekend overtime is available and the role involves covering approximately 12 weekends per month. This provides an opportunity to increase your annual earnings significantly.

The role

Reporting to the Planning Manager, you'll coordinate the daily workload for approximately 58 field teams, planning and scheduling works across the Thames Valley.

You'll typically schedule 5070 jobs per day and manage multiple live jobs at different stages of completion. Plans can change quickly, so you'll need to think on your feet, communicate clearly and find practical solutions when priorities shift.

You'll work closely with field teams, supervisors and operations colleagues to ensure works are properly resourced, completed as planned and accurately recorded.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and scheduling daily utilities, civils and reinstatement works

  • Coordinating 58 field teams and allocating jobs according to priorities and resources

  • Managing a high volume of work while keeping track of live jobs and deadlines

  • Responding to reactive works, urgent requests and changes to the daily schedule

  • Communicating with field teams by telephone and messages

  • Monitoring progress and resolving operational or scheduling issues

  • Arranging materials and ensuring teams have what they need to complete their work

  • Monitoring photographic evidence and following up on missing or incorrect information

  • Updating job statuses, records and work information using Salesforce

  • Using SWIMS to plan works and upload, review and track photographs

  • Liaising with supervisors, operations and colleagues across the planning team

  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring work information is up to date

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in candidates with a background in utilities planning, works scheduling or street works coordination who are comfortable managing a busy and changing workload.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience planning or scheduling works within the utilities sector

  • Experience coordinating multiple field teams and competing priorities

  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing directly with operational teams

  • Excellent organisation, time management and administrative skills

  • The ability to remain calm and make decisions when plans change

  • A proactive, practical approach to problem-solving

  • Basic Microsoft Excel skills

Experience in any of the following would also be beneficial:

  • Civils, reinstatement, highways, gas, water, telecoms or electricity

  • Street works coordination, permitting, NRSWA, TMA or Street Manager

  • Salesforce, SWIMS or similar planning and job management systems

  • Working knowledge of the Thames Valley area

You don't need to know every system from day one. Training and support will be provided. However, previous utilities planning experience is essential.

Your new employer

Established in 1990, our client is a respected specialist in civil engineering, reinstatement and utility services, supporting local authorities, utility companies and construction businesses across the South of England.

As a family-run business, they offer a close-knit working environment where teamwork, reliability and practical problem-solving are valued.

You'll be joining an established planning team with support from an experienced Planning Manager and colleagues who understand the demands of the role.
