Job Description
UX Designer
Summary/objective
isolved builds Human Capital Management software that millions of people use to get paid, manage time off, enroll in benefits, and run HR for their companies. The work touches essential parts of people's lives, so the experience needs to be clear, efficient, and trustworthy. You'll drive evidence-based product decisions for the isolved platform, working alongside engineers and product managers as the designer for the experiences you're assigned. You plan the research, shape the direction, and carry the work from problem framing through to what ships, using design thinking methods to ground decisions in how people actually behave rather than how we assume they do.The isolved platform is broad and interconnected. The designers who do well here can design a feature and also see how it ripples through the rest of the product: what it touches, what it changes, and what has to stay consistent.
Core Job Duties
- End-to-end experience design: discovery, flows, wireframes, high-fidelity screens, prototypes, and handoff
- Choose the right research method for the question at hand, run it, and turn raw findings into insights the team can act on. Synthesis and storytelling matter as much as the research itself
- Bring product and engineering into the research as it happens so decisions are shared, not pitched after the fact
- Design with the isolved design system and build on it, contributing new components and patterns when your work exposes a gap
- Facilitate workshops and working sessions with stakeholders, with clear goals and tangible outcomes
- Present work to the design team and stakeholders, give and take critique well, and iterate quickly
- Use AI tools as part of your everyday workflow: research planning, synthesis, competitive analysis, exploration, and documentation
- Design for accessibility and for the range of devices and contexts our users work in
Job Complexity
Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex data platform issues creatively and effectively. Serves as the hands-on, go-to expert for isolved's data platform infrastructure, administration, and pipeline operations. Some barriers to entry exist at this level (e.g., peer or architecture review).
Interaction
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside their own area of expertise.
Supervision
Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel.
Experience
Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; 6 years and a master's degree; or equivalent experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two to five years designing software products, ideally complex, data-heavy business applications
- A portfolio that shows how you think, not just what you shipped: the problem, the constraints, what you tried, and why the final answer won
- A clear research-to-design methodology. You can explain why you picked qualitative over quantitative (or the reverse) on a real project, and how research showed up across the whole process, not only in discovery
- Experience working within an established design system and contributing back to it, and the judgment to know when to extend it versus follow it
- A habit of looking for the root problem. The request you receive is often a symptom
- Comfort with the full UX toolkit: research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping
- Fluency with AI as a working tool. You already use it across your design process: planning and synthesizing research, exploring directions, prototyping, writing, and pressure-testing your own thinking. You can explain where it made your work better and where you overrode it
- Direct, concise communication with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders
Nice to Have:
- Experience using AI to build or maintain design system assets, or designing AI-driven product experiences
- Enough working knowledge of front-end concepts to have a good conversation with an engineer about how something gets built
- Experience in HCM, payroll, benefits, or another regulated, workflow-heavy domain
- Experience modernizing a legacy product while it stays in production
Physical Demands
