Show job description

You’ve discovered something special. A company that cares. Cares about leading the way in construction, engineering, manufacturing and renewable energy. Cares about redefining how energy is designed, applied and consumed. Cares about thoughtfully growing to meet market demands. And ─ as “one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America” ─ is focused on the mind/body/soul of team members through our Culture of Care.

The VDC Coordinator is responsible for establishing and executing the model based coordination process for assigned projects. Working closely with the Senior VDC Coordinator, this includes creating project specific BIM Execution Plans, developing coordination workflows, defining model exchange and publishing requirements, establishing clash detection and issue tracking procedures, coordinating meeting and reporting cadences, and documenting signoff and handoff expectations.

The role may support EPC project delivery, electrical construction projects, integrated delivery teams, or other FTI business groups. On projects where FTI is asked to perform a typical general contractor coordination role, or where FTI is the general contractor, the VDC Coordinator will administer and support the coordination process while each engineer, designer, and trade partner remains responsible for its own design, model content, scope, and required approvals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or a related discipline preferred. Relevant certifications or advanced training in BIM/VDC platforms, coordination workflows, or construction technology are preferred.

Experience: 3+ years of BIM or VDC coordination experience within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. Experience supporting active construction projects is required.

Travel: 10-20%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Coordination Across FTI: Provide direct VDC coordination support to assigned projects and business groups from coordination planning and startup through signoff, fabrication, and field handoff, working in partnership with the Senior VDC Coordinator to maintain consistent execution.
  • Create BIM Execution Plans and Coordination Workflows: Develop and maintain project specific BIM Execution Plans, coordination procedures, responsibility matrices, model exchange requirements, clash testing standards, issue tracking workflows, meeting cadences, signoff processes, and handoff requirements based on project and contractual needs.
  • Establish the Coordination Environment: Set up and maintain the approved model coordination platform, folder structure, federated model, clash tests, issue categories, permissions, reporting structure, and model publishing process.
  • Federate and Maintain Project Models: Collect, review, combine, and maintain current design and trade models within the approved project coordination environment.
  • Perform Clash Detection: Run scheduled clash tests, organize results by system, area, priority, and responsible party, and identify constructability or installation conflicts requiring resolution.
  • Create and Track Coordination Issues: Document issues with clear descriptions, locations, screenshots, assigned owners, due dates, status, and supporting information. Follow issues through verification and closure.
  • Prepare for and Facilitate Coordination Meetings: Review current models and open issues, develop agendas, facilitate assigned coordination sessions, document decisions, confirm action owners, and communicate required follow up.
  • Support FTI General Contractor Coordination: When FTI is asked to perform a typical general contractor coordination role, or when FTI is the general contractor, administer and support the workflow, federated model, clash matrix, issue log, meeting records, milestone tracking, trade signoffs, and project reporting.
  • Maintain Coordination Compliance: Confirm project participants follow the approved BIM Execution Plan, coordinate system, file naming standards, Level of Development requirements, model exchange schedule, and publishing procedures.
  • Coordinate System Interfaces: Work with FTI project teams, designers, engineers, and trade partners to resolve routing conflicts, equipment access, clearances, support requirements, penetration needs, installation sequencing, and interfaces between building systems.
  • Track Milestones and Signoffs: Monitor coordination zones, model release dates, issue closure targets, trade signoffs, procurement needs, fabrication dates, and field installation requirements.
  • Identify and Escalate Risks: Communicate unresolved issues, missing models, late responses, design changes, scope gaps, workflow noncompliance, schedule impacts, and decisions requiring project or VDC leadership involvement.
  • Document Coordination Decisions: Maintain accurate meeting notes, issue histories, model status, signoff records, workflow documentation, and supporting information so project decisions and responsibilities remain clear.
  • Support Fabrication, Field Handoffs, and Reporting: Confirm coordinated model information and issue status are available to fabrication, layout, and field teams, and provide concise progress updates to the Senior VDC Coordinator and assigned project leadership.

Role Scope and Accountability

  • Centralized Support Function: This position supports coordination needs across FTI and is assigned based on project requirements and priorities established by the VDC Director, with day to day project support and workload alignment coordinated through the Senior VDC Coordinator. It is not limited to one business group, client, project type, or delivery method.
  • Individual Contributor Role: This is a hands on coordinator position without direct reports or responsibility for managing the VDC department or its employees.
  • Coordination Process Ownership: When assigned, the coordinator may establish and administer the overall coordination process, including the BIM Execution Plan and associated workflows, but does not assume the contractual design, engineering, or trade scope responsibility of other project participants.
  • Project Authority and Escalation: Design changes, scope decisions, contractual direction, and schedule commitments remain with the appropriate project leader, engineer of record, general contractor, owner, or responsible trade partner. The coordinator identifies stalled items and works with the Senior VDC Coordinator on escalation through established project and VDC leadership channels.

Working Relationships

  • Senior VDC Coordinator: Provides day to day direction, technical guidance, workflow support, mentoring, workload coordination, and escalation assistance. The VDC Coordinator works closely with the Senior VDC Coordinator to support consistent coordination delivery across FTI.
  • FTI Project and Business Leadership: Provides project requirements, delivery priorities, contractual expectations, schedule milestones, and decisions needed to advance coordination.
  • VDC Operations Manager and Supervisors: Coordinate model production support, staffing interfaces, project responsibilities, and impacts to existing VDC workloads.
  • Engineering, Design, and EPC Teams: Coordinate design information, model updates, technical responses, procurement interfaces, and decisions affecting spatial coordination and constructability.
  • General Contractors and Trade Partners: Exchange models, follow established workflows, resolve coordination issues, confirm actions, and complete required coordination signoffs.
  • Fabrication and Field Teams: Align coordinated model deliverables with prefabrication, layout, installation sequencing, and field execution needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

The job description and responsibilities described are intended to provide guidelines for job expectations and the employee's ability to perform the position described. It is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all functions, responsibilities, skills, and abilities.
