Put your clinical expertise to work beyond your primary practice. Vets Choice Radiology (VCR) offers Part-Time, Remote Independent Contractor opportunities for Veterinary Radiologists seeking additional income and meaningful diagnostic work alongside an existing clinical, hospital or academic position.
Continue the clinical career you have built while exploring a complementary role in teleradiology. You will support emergency, specialty and general practices through remote interpretation and consultation, with Clinical Liaison coordination, experienced colleagues and technical support during your scheduled coverage.
Role at a Glance
• Supplemental, fully remote work as a Part-Time Independent Contractor. Multiple opportunities available; no travel or on-call duty required.
• Apply your specialist expertise to studies submitted by other practices and help referring veterinarians make informed care decisions.
• Earn additional income through production-based teleradiology work, with competitive compensation based on experience and credentials. Compensation terms will be discussed during the selection process.
We will discuss your existing professional commitments and availability alongside VCR’s coverage needs. The current opening calls for two to three weekday evenings, 6:00 p.m.–midnight Central Time, plus one Saturday or Sunday shift each week. Evening assignments are established collaboratively. Total weekly hours, weekend shift duration and shared holiday coverage will be confirmed when agreeing your schedule.
Why Choose VCR
Founded in 2018, VCR connects more than 100 board-certified veterinary radiologists worldwide and provides interpretation services 24/7/365. We are investing in our people and advancing our technology as we grow, with collaboration, mutual support and diagnostic quality at the heart of our work.
• Clinical Coordination Around Your Work: Our internal Clinical Liaison team coordinates client communication, missing histories and follow-up requests, while you provide interpretations and necessary clinical consultations.
• Connection to Colleagues: Internal communication channels, case rounds, mentor rounds and quality assurance and peer review provide opportunities to exchange expertise and learn together.
• Support for Remote Practice: IT and technical support are available during all shifts. VCR provides required computer equipment and monitors, plus partial reimbursement for internet service.
• An Experienced Mentor: Each new radiologist is paired with an experienced colleague during onboarding.
Applying Your Clinical Expertise in Teleradiology
Interpret radiographs, ultrasound, CT and MRI studies and produce clear, accurate, actionable reports using voice dictation. Consult with referring veterinarians on complex or critical cases, collaborate with fellow radiologists, and participate in rounds and quality review.
Your clinical experience is valuable, and remote interpretation brings different demands. You will assess studies acquired by other practices, work with the histories and image quality provided, and consult remotely with referring veterinarians. Reading pace and completed interpretations matter alongside diagnostic accuracy and report quality. VCR’s one-hour STAT guarantee makes timely prioritization of urgent studies essential.
Qualifications and Getting Started
We welcome experienced Teleradiologists and hospital- or clinic-based radiologists exploring supplemental remote work. Prior teleradiology experience is preferred, but is not required. We will discuss your reporting experience by modality, including studies you acquired or supervised and those submitted by other practices. Each new radiologist is paired with an experienced onboarding mentor.
• DVM, VMD or equivalent; Diplomate of the ACVR or ECVDI. Board-eligible candidates will be considered.
• Proficiency interpreting radiographs, ultrasound, CT and MRI, with sound clinical judgment and close attention to diagnostic quality.
• An active veterinary license in a U.S. state, or willingness to obtain one.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including clear reports and effective consultation with referring veterinarians.
• Ability to work independently, sustain concentration and prioritize urgent cases in a high-volume setting, including during evening coverage ending at midnight Central Time.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated, professional workspace with minimal background noise. The work involves extended computer-based image review and use of a keyboard, mouse and dictation equipment.
Experience in emergency imaging or exotic, equine or large animal imaging is valued, as is an interest in mentorship, teaching or team development. Radiologists are expected to maintain current professional knowledge through continuing education.
Compensation and Professional Support
This is an opportunity to supplement your primary work through an Independent Contractor engagement. Compensation and engagement terms will be set out in the contractor agreement.
• Competitive Compensation: Compensation based on experience and credentials, with the production compensation structure discussed during the selection process.
• Professional Coverage: Malpractice coverage is included, and veterinary licensing costs are covered.
• Remote Practice Resources: Required computer equipment and monitors, partial internet reimbursement, and technical support during scheduled coverage.
• Collegial Clinical Support: An experienced onboarding mentor and opportunities to connect with colleagues through case discussion, rounds and peer review.
We welcome Veterinary Radiologists seeking an ongoing Part-Time relationship alongside their primary clinical work. As VCR grows, additional coverage opportunities may become available based on business needs and mutual interest.
