Vice President, Intelligence & Impact
Mercy For Animals
Reports to: President & CEO
Level: Vice President | Senior Leadership Team
Location: Remote, Global
Scope: Global
About the Role
Mercy For Animals is entering a new chapter, sharpening our focus on the opportunities where we can achieve the greatest possible impact for animals. As part of this evolution, we are establishing a new Intelligence & Impact function to strengthen how we identify opportunities, make strategic choices, measure effectiveness, and leverage technology to advance our mission.
Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Vice President of Intelligence & Impact will serve as a key strategic partner to the organization's leadership, bringing together enterprise strategy, strategic intelligence, impact evaluation, and technology-enabled transformation.
This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role. We are looking for someone who can turn complex information into clear recommendations, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities others may overlook, and build the tools and capabilities that enable MFA to operate more intelligently and effectively. Success in this role will be measured not only by the quality of strategic insights and recommendations, but by the practical changes, capabilities, and measurable improvements in animal impact that result from them.
You may have built your career in consulting, corporate strategy, philanthropy, or organizational transformation. What matters is your ability to turn evidence into action and your commitment to improving outcomes for animals.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to shape organizational strategy, establish priorities, and inform resource allocation.
- Evaluate MFA's global portfolio of initiatives against expected animal impact, strategic alignment, feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and comparative advantage.
- Provide ongoing, evidence-informed recommendations on which initiatives MFA should scale, maintain, redesign, or discontinue based on expected and demonstrated animal impact, including evaluation of new program areas, geographic expansion, and coalition opportunities.
Strategic Intelligence & Research
- Build a proactive intelligence capability that identifies emerging opportunities, risks, and developments across animal agriculture, corporate behavior, public policy, technology, and relevant markets.
- Translate research, data, and external developments into actionable insights that inform MFA's interventions and strategic direction.
- Identify opportunities for greater leverage, collaboration, and systemic change.
Impact Measurement & Organizational Learning
- Establish a consistent and coherent organization-wide framework for measuring and assessing MFA's global impact across interventions and geographies.
- Develop meaningful performance indicators, evaluation methodologies, and mechanisms for organizational learning and tracking.
- Ensure evidence and insights consistently inform strategic decisions, program improvement, and resource allocation.
Technology, Systems & Organizational Enablement
- Lead MFA's technology-enabled transformation strategy, identifying opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness through tool development, connected data, AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Oversee the development, integration, and adoption of solutions that simplify workflows, strengthen decision-making, and increase productivity.
- Establish a practical technology roadmap, prioritizing investments based on organizational needs, expected value, and implementation feasibility.
- Partner closely with IT to ensure new technologies, tools, and data systems are effectively integrated, secure, scalable, and aligned with organizational needs.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Build and lead a lean, multidisciplinary Intelligence & Impact team spanning strategy and research, impact assessment and analytics, and technology development and integration.
- Serve as a trusted strategic thought partner to the CEO, providing independent perspectives and clear, decision-ready recommendations.
- Partner closely with regional and functional leaders, strengthening their ability to deliver results while maintaining clear accountability for execution.
- Serve as a strong, collaborative partner and member of the senior leadership team, contributing not only within the Intelligence & Impact function but to the organization's broader leadership and decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience
- Senior leadership experience across strategy, organizational leadership, analytics, impact evaluation, technology transformation, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex opportunities, navigate ambiguity, and translate analysis into consequential strategic decisions.
- Strong quantitative, qualitative, financial, and operational acumen, with the ability to balance analytical rigor and practical judgment.
- Experience driving technology-enabled transformation, including systems development or integration, AI adoption, automation, or organizational process improvement.
- Proven ability to build and lead teams, influence senior stakeholders, and work effectively across disciplines and geographies.
- Ability to understand how advocacy and institutional change improve outcomes for animals, with a willingness to learn from colleagues with deep expertise in animal protection.
- Exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, humility, intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated bias toward action.
- Deep commitment to improving the lives of farmed animals and advancing Mercy For Animals’ mission, alongside intellectual curiosity and openness to new approaches.
Experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, strategic philanthropy, business transformation, or mission-driven organizational leadership is particularly relevant. Prior experience in animal protection is preferred but not required. We welcome candidates from other sectors who bring relevant expertise and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for animals.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected starting salary range for this position is $130,720 – $150,800. Because this is a remote leadership role, we recognize that exceptional talent comes from diverse sectors and geographies. We are open to adjusting compensation beyond this target range to align with a candidate’s specific depth of leadership experience, specialized skills, and the unique strategic capabilities they bring to advancing our mission. In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including no- or low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; and a 401(k) retirement plan with a dollar-to-dollar employer match of up to 3.5% of your annual earnings.
For candidates applying outside of the United States, the regional salary range and benefits packages will be discussed during the initial interview stage.
Application Details
We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter. Feel encouraged to go outside a traditional cover letter and state how you would add to our culture; what we would gain from having you on our team; and how you align with our organizational vision, mission, and values.
