Show job description

Your next role should come with a real seat at the table and a clear path to the top operating job. This one has both. As VP of Operations, you'll be the Founder/CEO's right hand and Embarc's future EOS Integrator.

You'll be joining a firm with real momentum. Revenue has nearly tripled in three years, Embarc Advisors® has made the Inc. 5000 three years running, and its hourly fee model is shaking up middle-market M&A. With three businesses to scale (M&A advisory, transaction diligence and strategic CFO advisory), your impact will show up in the numbers.

You're the kind of leader who remains steady when things are challenging and leads with a clear professional voice.

About Embarc Advisors

Embarc Advisors is disrupting the middle market M&A and CFO advisory industry. Built by a former Goldman Sachs banker and McKinsey consultant who identified a gap in this underserved market. We are one of the fastest-growing firms in our space, with revenue up nearly 3x over the past three years and multiple repeated rankings on the Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies. We are scaling fast, and we're doing it without sacrificing the culture that got us here.

We deliver best-in-class advisory work across M&A, transaction diligence, and strategic CFO services - partnering with lower-middle-market companies at every stage of their growth journey.

We operate as a team of elite athletes: trust-based, purpose-driven, and relentless about getting better; Kaizen isn't a poster on the wall here, it's how we operate. EOS gives us the structure and accountability to move fast without losing alignment, and it's exactly what lets us attract driven professionals and serious clients alike.

Role Overview

Title: VP of Operations

Job Type: Full time

Position Location: Remote with a strong preference to be located near the San Francisco area and/or the ability to undertake frequent travel to the Bay Area.

Here's what you'll lead and how your first six months could unfold:

  • Month 1: Sit in on every leadership meeting, meet each practice lead, and learn the Scorecard, Rocks and open issues. By day 30, you run the weekly leadership meeting and own the operating rhythm. Learn how each business makes money. Go deep on M&A advisory, transaction diligence and strategic CFO advisory: pipeline, pricing, utilization and margin. Help lead your first quarterly planning session and you can explain how each business wins, with its numbers, and you've identified the biggest operational bottlenecks and a plan to fix them.
  • Months 2-3: Identify tasks the Operations team needs to do to ensure the client-facing staff members can reach their goals for the 1-year plan and 3-year picture. Build planning and capacity models and tighten the Scorecard so every leader owns measurable numbers. Build a work plan to achieve these goals. Present a data-backed answer to "How do we double revenue?" Step into growth. Turn the plan into Rocks, hiring plans and accountabilities.
  • Months 4+: Prove it in the results. Execute the plan, scale core systems (hiring, onboarding, HR, legal, IT, AI and automation), and report progress against targets every week.

This role isn't for you if:

  • You've mainly supported operations (project management, executive assistance, office management) rather than run them.
  • You'd rather work from reports than dig into the data yourself. Here decisions are made on facts, and every number has an owner.
  • You wait to be told where to look. Here we live by Extreme Ownership: you need to raise problems early and solve them.
  • You avoid conflict or hold on to a position after the data says otherwise. Here expect direct, high-intensity debate: hold your ground with data, change course when the facts warrant it, then commit.

What you need for this job:

  • You are currently in the right seat. You hold now, or held recently, a VP of Operations, Chief of Staff, General Manager or EOS Integrator role in which you reported directly to a founder/CEO and worked with the leadership team as a peer.
  • You've built and scaled growth. You've helped grow a professional services or multi-line firm of roughly 30 to 60+ people. You can point to the systems you put in place: meeting cadence, KPIs, and hiring and onboarding processes.
  • You have owned the numbers. You built and owned the forecast, budget or capacity model that leadership used to make decisions, and you're fluent in P&L, utilization and margin. Reporting someone else's numbers isn't enough.
  • You've successfully held leaders accountable. You've run the operating rhythm for a leadership team (weekly meetings, scorecards, quarterly priorities). You held senior people to their commitments without formal authority over them.
  • AI early adopter. You've put AI or automation into a real team workflow and can show the result, beyond using it for your own productivity.
  • An entrepreneurial track record. You've had at least one role in a founder-led or high-growth company. A corporate-only career won't be a fit.
  • You have a bachelor's degree, and the ability to travel for quarterly offsites plus about six trips a year with the CEO.

Preferred: Hands-on EOS experience; a background in M&A, investment banking, corporate development, strategic finance or consulting; experience leading marketing or business development; tools you've built with low-code or AI; a Bay Area base; a master's in finance, economics, math, business or social science.
