About the Job
vidIQ makes videos that help YouTube creators grow their channels. We cover what's changing on YouTube, explain how the platform works, and tell the stories behind creators' successes.
We're looking for an editor who can take a scripted recording and turn it into a video people enjoy watching. You'll know which take to use, where an explanation needs a visual, and when a joke will make the whole thing better.
You'll work with our hosts and producers on long-form videos for the vidIQ YouTube channel. Some projects arrive as raw footage with a script. Others already have a rough cut. Either way, we want someone who takes ownership of the edit, brings ideas, and finds ways to improve the video without waiting to be asked.
What you’ll do
Make ideas easy to understand. Build motion graphics, diagrams and visual examples that explain what the host is saying. Notice where the spoken explanation leaves a gap and add visuals so viewers can follow along.
Find the right pace. Choose the best takes, tighten rambling sections and keep the story moving without rushing the explanation.
Bring personality to the video. Use humor, memes, music, sound and B-roll where they fit the host and the subject.
Take ownership of your edits. Make creative decisions, suggest improvements and flag anything that needs input from the host or producer.
Deliver strong first cuts. Review your own work, catch mistakes and check that the visuals support the explanation before sending it for feedback.
Work to our publishing schedule. Our videos usually run 10–20 minutes, and the usual editing turnaround is about three days. We'll agree on timing for each video based on how much visual work it needs and how complex that work is.
Keep improving how you edit. Try new tools and techniques, build reusable graphics, and share anything that helps the team work faster without lowering quality.
Ideal Candidate
You have strong long-form editing work to show us, including motion graphics that help explain an idea. You can walk us through your choices, how you solved a difficult section, and what you'd improve now.
You have a good feel for pacing. You know when to cut, when to let an example breathe, and when a clear visual can replace a long explanation.
Experience with educational or explainer channels is a plus. You understand how visuals can fill gaps in an explanation and keep viewers engaged, especially when a topic gets complicated.
You're comfortable working with different hosts and taking feedback. You bring your own suggestions, follow through on them, and care about how the finished video turns out.
Job Requirements
A portfolio of long-form videos you personally edited, including motion graphics work
Strong skills in After Effects or a similar motion graphics tool
Proficiency in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or similar (we're open on software)
Ability to edit a 10–20-minute video in about three days
Organized project files, footage and assets, backed up so another editor can pick them up if needed
Enough overlap with US hours to work with the team
How to apply
When you apply, include one or two videos you edited and a few lines on what you handled in each, especially if other people worked on them. A résumé is welcome but not required, and there's no need for a cover letter. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to do a short paid edit using footage and style references we provide.
