About the Role
We’re looking for an exceptional AI Software Engineer who uses AI coding agents to build software faster, automate engineering workflows, and solve complex technical problems.
Join an early-stage AI startup building foundation models for physical engineering design and help bring next-generation AI-powered engineering products to market.
What You’ll Do
- Build and ship production software across the full stack, including applications, APIs, and backend services.
- Develop production-ready LLM applications and AI agents, including tool use, orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation.
- Use Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor to accelerate development, automate engineering tasks, and improve codebase productivity.
- Identify engineering bottlenecks and build automation that measurably improves development speed and output.
- Design evaluation systems to measure AI quality, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate with research, product, and engineering teams to turn advanced AI capabilities into real-world products.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 3 years of full-time software engineering experience, ideally 3–6 years.
- A Computer Science degree from a top-20 university.
- Proven 0-to-1 product or system ownership at a Seed–Series D startup or FAANG+ company.
- Advanced, daily hands-on experience with Codex, Claude Code, or Cursor, backed by concrete examples of improved engineering productivity.
- Experience building and shipping production LLM applications or agentic systems, including evaluation and reliability improvements.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills across applications, APIs, and backend systems.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one of TypeScript or C++.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to thrive in a high-ownership environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience building custom tooling or automation around coding agents.
- Exposure to CAD, 3D geometry, robotics, graphics, perception, or simulation.
- Experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or an early-stage startup.
- Strong academic performance, open-source contributions, or exceptional technical achievements.
Important Work Requirements
- Candidates must already be based in the San Francisco Bay Area; relocation-dependent applicants are not being prioritized.
- Ability to work from the San Francisco office five days per week.
- Comfortable committing approximately 55–60 hours per week, with occasional online availability for urgent weekend issues.
