AI Technical Project Manager

• Salary: ¥280,000 – ¥350,000 per month (including fixed overtime pay, see below)

About the role

Xusux is a tech company that combines system development, design, and AI to maximize value for businesses. AI is a standard part of how we design, code, and test, and we work on both our own products (AI-OCR and AI-RPA) and custom AI applications for client companies.

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager with an engineering background to lead these projects. You will work directly with clients and side by side with our developers, including our international engineers, taking each project from the first client meeting to delivery: understanding the business need, shaping the technical solution, and guiding the team to deliver it.

What you will do

1. Lead client projects, technically and end to end

• Be the main point of contact for clients: understand their data and workflow challenges, run requirements workshops, and propose practical AI-driven solutions.
• Define scope, schedule, and budget, and manage progress, risks, and quality through delivery.
• Handle client communication, reporting, and expectation management.

2. Work hands-on with the development team

• Turn business requirements into technical specifications and tasks together with the engineers.
• Take part in basic and detailed design, architecture decisions, API design, and data integration, and review technical approaches with the dev team.
• Follow implementation and testing closely, and step in technically when needed (code review, troubleshooting, prototyping).
• Coordinate with our non-Japanese engineers and keep the team aligned.

3. Deliver AI solutions that fit client needs

• Manage projects involving AI-OCR (including data extraction accuracy and system integration), AI-RPA, and custom AI applications.
• Plan and oversee the deployment of on-premises local AI environments that meet clients’ security requirements.
• Feed client feedback back into the development of our in-house products.

4. Use AI in how we build

• Use AI tools in your own work and encourage their use across design, coding, and testing.
• Evaluate and prototype new technologies on our in-house AI server.

Requirements

Must-have

• Hands-on development experience in web applications or enterprise/business systems (any language or framework). You should be able to read and discuss code, designs, and architecture with engineers.
• Japanese language proficiency at JLPT N1 or native.
• Experience in client-facing work or in leading projects (requirements definition, project coordination, technical consulting)
• Strong curiosity about AI and a drive to keep learning new tools and technologies
• Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative in solving problems
• A startup mindset: comfortable taking ownership in an environment with a lot of autonomy

Nice-to-have

• Formal project management experience (scope, schedule, and budget management; PMP or similar)
• Experience in upstream phases (requirements definition, basic design) or in API design and data integration
• Hands-on experience with Python, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript, or databases
• Experience or knowledge in AI-related fields (OCR, LLM, RAG, automation)
• Comfort communicating in English and researching technical information from overseas sources

Working conditions

• Working days: Monday to Friday
• Hours: 8 hours per day, fixed-time schedule (average 160 scheduled hours per month)
• Days off: Two days off every week (Saturday, Sunday, national holidays), year-end/New Year holidays, summer holidays, annual paid leave. 120+ days off per year.
• Smoking: Indoor smoking prohibited (separate smoking area available)
• Relocation: None
• Business travel: Trips to our overseas subsidiary are possible (on request)

Compensation

• Monthly salary: ¥280,000 – ¥350,000, depending on experience, skills, and previous salary.
• Fixed overtime pay is included: this amount includes a fixed allowance of ¥66,667 – ¥83,333 covering 40 hours of overtime per month. Overtime beyond 40 hours is paid separately.
• (In other words, the base salary before the fixed overtime allowance is roughly ¥213,333 – ¥266,667.)
• Salary review: once a year
• Bonus: twice a year
• Allowances (case by case): childcare allowance, housing allowance
• Commuting: transportation costs covered per company policy

Probation period

• 6 months. During probation you are employed as a contract employee, and your conditions may differ from those of a permanent employee.
