Show job description

We’re partnering with a fast-growing AI technology company building the infrastructure that enables intelligent software agents to securely operate across real-world enterprise environments.

The company is creating a platform that allows AI agents to discover, authenticate with, access, and interact with the applications and systems businesses depend on every day. By bringing together identity, connectivity, permissions, security, and infrastructure, the platform enables AI-powered workflows to execute reliably across complex enterprise technology ecosystems.

The Role

As a Backend Engineer, you’ll help design and operate the core infrastructure that allows AI agents to function securely and reliably across enterprise environments. You’ll work across distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, enterprise integrations, identity, security, and internal developer platforms.

This role offers broad technical ownership, with responsibility spanning infrastructure architecture, production services, enterprise connectivity, platform reliability, and the tooling required to support the platform at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and scale core infrastructure services supporting AI workloads and enterprise customers.
  • Develop platform capabilities for identity, authentication, authorization, access policies, tenant management, and customer lifecycle operations.
  • Build and maintain secure connectivity between AI agents and business applications including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Teams, Zoom, email, and telephony platforms.
  • Develop integrations with enterprise systems such as NetSuite, SharePoint, Google Drive, SAP, Oracle, and other business-critical applications.
  • Create APIs, internal services, and reusable infrastructure abstractions that allow AI applications to securely interact with external systems.
  • Build systems supporting customer provisioning, onboarding, configuration, deployment, and environment management.
  • Take ownership of infrastructure and platform components from architecture and implementation through deployment, observability, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive improvements in availability, scalability, performance, resilience, and fault tolerance as the platform and customer base expand.
  • Collaborate with AI, security, infrastructure, and product engineering teams to define service boundaries, APIs, architectural patterns, and reusable platform capabilities.
  • Automate operational processes, deployment workflows, infrastructure management, and repetitive engineering tasks.
  • Implement security and governance controls around data isolation, access management, auditing, and AI-initiated actions.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions as the platform evolves to support new enterprise use cases and requirements.
  • Lead technical initiatives from early investigation and architecture through production launch and ongoing ownership.
  • Establish infrastructure standards, engineering patterns, and operational best practices that improve reliability and developer productivity across the organization.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of professional experience working with backend systems, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, platform engineering, or production services.
  • Experience building and operating systems where reliability, security, scalability, and performance are critical.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, authentication, authorization, IAM, RBAC, and access-control models.
  • Experience building integrations with enterprise SaaS platforms or other mission-critical business systems.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, production infrastructure, deployments, observability, monitoring, and operational tooling.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across application, service, and infrastructure layers.
  • Solid software engineering fundamentals and the ability to make thoughtful production architecture decisions.
  • Proven ability to independently drive technical projects from initial design through deployment and long-term operation.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security, compliance, SOC 2, data protection, or access governance is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across infrastructure, AI, security, platform, and product engineering teams.
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment where technical requirements and priorities evolve quickly.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $245,000 – $300,000, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Location: San Francisco, CA, Hybrid
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents
  • 401(k) plan
