Combined-Cycle Commissioning Support Engineer

Working arrangement: Office-based / Hybrid

Employment type: Full-time, Permanent

Relocation assistance available

About the Opportunity

We're supporting the search for an experienced Commissioning Support Engineer to join the technical commissioning function of a major international power generation business.

This is an opportunity for an engineer with strong combined-cycle power plant experience to move into a more office-based technical role, supporting commissioning and startup activities across multiple power generation projects.

Rather than being permanently assigned to individual project sites, you'll work as part of a specialist technical support team, providing real-time engineering expertise to commissioning teams during critical project milestones.

The role offers the opportunity to remain closely involved in complex gas turbine and combined-cycle operations, troubleshooting and plant performance without the extensive travel typically associated with field commissioning positions.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing remote technical support to onsite commissioning teams during pre-commissioning, first fire, startup, tuning, performance testing and reliability runs.
  • Monitoring and analysing plant operating data, DCS trends, alarms and historian information to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Troubleshooting complex equipment and system performance issues across gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Supporting root-cause investigations and coordinating corrective actions with field commissioning and engineering teams.
  • Acting as a technical escalation point during critical commissioning activities.
  • Supporting commissioning readiness reviews, technical assessments and system integration activities.
  • Preparing technical reports, documenting resolutions and contributing to continuous improvement across commissioning operations.
  • Providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in speaking with engineers who have developed their expertise through hands-on commissioning, startup, operations or technical support within combined-cycle power generation.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Approximately 7–10 years of relevant engineering, commissioning or power generation experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of gas turbine combined-cycle power plants, including GTs, STs, HRSGs, balance of plant and control systems.
  • Experience analysing DCS data, plant operating trends, alarms and historian systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting, diagnostics and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • An understanding of commissioning sequences, startup procedures and plant performance testing.
  • The ability to communicate technical findings clearly and support multiple project teams.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.

Experience providing technical support across multiple sites, familiarity with NERC requirements or knowledge of Primavera P6 would be advantageous.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

For engineers who enjoy the technical challenges of commissioning but are looking for greater stability than traditional field-based assignments, this role offers an interesting alternative.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Support complex combined-cycle power generation projects across multiple locations.
  • Remain technically involved in critical commissioning and startup activities.
  • Work within an established international power generation organisation.
  • Develop your expertise alongside experienced engineering and commissioning specialists.
  • Benefit from a more consistent, office-based working environment.

The package includes a competitive base salary, 401(k) with employer matching, medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, professional development support and relocation assistance.

Interested?

If you have combined-cycle commissioning or power generation experience and are interested in moving into a more technically focused support position, we'd be keen to hear from you.

Apply through LinkedIn, and we'll arrange an initial confidential conversation to discuss the opportunity, your background and what you're looking for next.
