Controls Engineer – Warehouse Automation

John Charles Search is recruiting four Controls Engineers for a global warehouse automation and

intralogistics business. This is a hands-on field-based role supporting the commissioning of automated warehouse systems, including AS/RS, conveyors, controls networks, safety systems and associated software.

The role

Develop, configure and commission controls solutions for automated warehouse projects.
Configure and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, barcode scanners and industrial networks.
Complete startup, diagnostics and site commissioning, including I/O checks, signal testing, safety-device validation and fault-finding.
Work with Siemens S7/TIA Portal or Allen-Bradley/Studio 5000; Siemens experience is preferred, but either platform is suitable.
Work with PROFINET, PROFIBUS or industrial Ethernet networks—strong practical experience is essential.
Support installation teams, coordinate daily site tasks and report project progress.
Train customer maintenance and operations teams once systems are live.
Receive training on the company’s proprietary warehouse-controls software.

What we are looking for

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
At least one year of industrial-automation experience.
PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD and controls-commissioning exposure.
Ability to read electrical drawings and mechanical layouts.
Warehouse automation, AS/RS, material handling or conveyor experience is preferred; broader manufacturing automation experience will be considered.
Experience with SEW or Lenze drives is advantageous.

Travel

This role requires approximately 80% travel. Engineers can be away for 4–8 weeks at a time,

typically working on site across two consecutive weeks before returning home for a weekend.

Flights, hotels and rental cars are fully arranged by the business.
