Join Our Growing Team!

Angell West is growing, and we are excited to add an internship trained or experienced emergency veterinarian to our team as we move into our new, larger hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing specialty practice at an important time in our development. The move to this larger facility will allow us to expand our services, strengthen our specialty team, and provide even greater resources for our patients, clients, and referring veterinarians.

Our current team includes four criticalists, three surgeons, one dermatologist, two avian and exotic doctors, one urgent care doctor, 1.5 general practitioners, 5.5 experienced emergency doctors, and rotating specialists from Boston.

Our People:

You will join a collaborative Emergency and Critical Care service supported by four criticalists, providing an exceptional level of specialty support, mentorship, and case collaboration.

Our broader medical team includes emergency and critical care, internal medicine, surgery, avian/exotics, dermatology, general practice, urgent care, and behavior. We also have a robust training program with five rotating interns and three specialty interns.

Our emergency veterinarians are internship-trained, team-oriented, diligent, and conscientious. Collaboration is central to our culture, and our team members consistently identify the people they work with as one of the best parts of their experience at Angell West.

What Makes Angell West Unique:

This is an opportunity to join a well-established, respected, non-corporate, nonprofit referral hospital where emergency veterinarians have the resources and support to practice high-quality medicine without feeling rushed.

Our caseload and staffing allow our emergency veterinarians to both see emergency cases and manage complex hospitalized patients, with support, mentorship, and appropriate time to devote to challenging cases. Emergency veterinarians work closely with our four criticalists and other specialists, creating opportunities for ongoing professional development and learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing inpatients, overseeing the CCU, receiving patients through our emergency service, and participating in the mentorship and training of our interns.

Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a nonprofit, values-driven organization focused on excellent patient care, client service, and sustainable work-life balance.

Our six core values are Collaboration, Compassion, Excellence, Integrity, Positivity, and Service. Continual improvement is part of our culture, and we are looking for an individual who shares these values and is seeking a collaborative, client-focused setting.

Professional development opportunities include weekly seminars, lunch and learns, journal club, topic-based rounds, and didactic learning at both Angell West in Waltham and Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston.

Our Benefits:

We offer a competitive benefits package, including a guaranteed base salary with additional production-based compensation and a desirable work schedule. Our staffing model allows for considerable time away from work and supports a healthy work-life balance. When emergency veterinarians are away from the hospital, our Emergency and Critical Care service has a seamless coverage system so that patient and client needs are addressed without creating an increased workload upon return.

Benefits include:

  • Sign-on bonus and relocation allowance where applicable
  • Generous base salary plus additional production bonus
  • Paid professional memberships, licensure, PLIT, VIN, and DEA license
  • Annual CE allowance and professional development time
  • Generous paid time off, including paid holidays
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance
  • Dental, life, and disability insurance
  • 403(b) with employer match
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Social worker on staff to support the well-being and work-life balance of our doctors and technicians
  • The opportunity to work within the renowned MSPCA/Angell nonprofit organization, with potential eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

Requirements:

We are seeking veterinarians who hold a DVM or equivalent degree and have completed a rotating internship. We encourage recent rotating internship graduates to apply, as we provide mentorship, specialty support, and ongoing opportunities for professional growth and learning.

Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical judgment, the ability to multitask, and the ability to work successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate should communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with veterinary and technical staff, clients, and referring veterinarians.
