German Digital Customer Engineer – Google Cloud
Barcelona, Spain | €48,656 Total Compensation Package | Relocation Support Available
Turn cloud technology into real business value
Are you a cloud technology expert who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, designing scalable architectures, and helping businesses make confident technology decisions?
Take your career to the next level as a Digital Customer Engineer supporting Google Cloud solutions. In this role, you'll combine deep technical knowledge with consultative sales engineering, working alongside Partners and Sales teams to transform customer requirements into practical, scalable cloud solutions.
From evaluating architectures and demonstrating product capabilities to building prototypes and overcoming technical barriers, you'll help customers understand what's possible with cloud technology — and how to make it work for their business.
This is an opportunity to bring together your expertise in cloud infrastructure, data technologies, application development, and systems integration while developing your commercial impact in an international technology environment.
The opportunity
As a Digital Customer Engineer, you'll act as a trusted technical advisor to Partners and Sales teams throughout the cloud sales process.
Your focus will be on understanding technical requirements, identifying barriers to adoption, evaluating solution options, and demonstrating how cloud technologies can address business needs. You'll help shape technical solutions, support proof-of-concept activities, and ensure that proposed architectures align with customer objectives and technical best practices.
The role is primarily Partner- and Sales-facing, with an emphasis on technical consulting, solution evaluation, enablement, and adoption across products, customer segments, channels, and regions.
What you'll do
1. Design cloud architectures that solve business problems
Partner with Sales and Partner teams to understand customer requirements, technical constraints, and business objectives.
Translate requirements into scalable, future-ready cloud architectures.
Identify technical barriers to cloud adoption and recommend practical ways to address them.
Provide guidance on enterprise architecture, integration strategies, application infrastructure, and platform technologies.
Explain the technical implications and business value of different solution approaches.
2. Lead technical evaluations and demonstrations
Support technical evaluations throughout the sales cycle.
Develop prototypes, demonstrations, and integration examples using cloud products in Partner environments.
Demonstrate relevant product capabilities and explain how proposed solutions address customer requirements.
Help technical stakeholders assess feasibility, integration requirements, and potential implementation challenges.
Work with Sales and Partners to resolve technical objections and remove blockers that could prevent an opportunity from progressing.
3. Enable Partners and Sales teams
Serve as a technical resource for Partners and Sales colleagues during customer engagements.
Respond to technical questions and provide guidance on solution design and product capabilities.
Prepare and deliver technical briefings, whiteboard sessions, and solution presentations.
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to different stakeholders.
Help teams articulate the value of cloud solutions in terms of scalability, integration, functionality, and business outcomes.
4. Apply your technical expertise
Interpret cloud product documentation and technical specifications.
Use relevant administrative, development, and support consoles to assess solutions and demonstrate functionality.
Evaluate integration approaches, application infrastructure, data platforms, and enterprise environments.
Research technical questions and use documentation and practical evaluation to support recommendations.
Apply your knowledge of cloud, networking, databases, web technologies, and application development to real-world customer scenarios.
5. Support opportunity management and technical wins
Maintain accurate opportunity records in Salesforce.
Document technical evaluations, required sales-stage deliverables, and supporting artifacts.
Ensure technical-win criteria are addressed throughout the sales process.
Collaborate with Sales and Partner teams to maintain progress and visibility across active opportunities.
Complete mandatory product training and certifications within the required timelines.
What you'll bring
We're looking for an experienced technical professional who can combine engineering knowledge, structured problem-solving, and confident communication in a customer-facing environment.
Education and experience
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 5 years of experience in cloud technical sales engineering or a comparable customer-facing role in professional services or systems engineering.
Experience supporting technical evaluations, solution design, integrations, or architecture discussions with customers, Partners, or Sales teams.
Cloud, data, and infrastructure expertise
You should have experience with Big Data, Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) technologies, alongside hands-on experience using or managing databases.
Relevant data technologies include:
Hadoop and MapReduce.
Apache Spark, Spark SQL, Flume, Hive, and Impala.
BigQuery or comparable data-processing and analytics platforms.
Experience across these technologies will help you evaluate data-intensive workloads and discuss suitable cloud architectures.
Linux, web technologies, and networking
You should also bring working knowledge of the technical foundations that support cloud applications and enterprise environments, including:
Linux and web protocols: Linux environments, HTTP, authentication, cookies and sessions.
Web standards and formats: XML, HTML/XHTML, and XSLT.
Enterprise networking: DNS, TCP, firewalls, proxy servers, and DMZs.
Application development and integration: REST, SOAP, J2EE, servlets, Python, JavaScript, PHP, or related technologies.
Databases and integration: Experience using or managing databases and understanding how applications connect to data services.
The strongest candidates will be able to connect these technical foundations to architecture decisions, integration requirements, and practical cloud adoption challenges.
Communication and professional skills
Strong technical communication and presentation skills.
The ability to explain complex concepts clearly and confidently.
A consultative approach to understanding customer needs and recommending solutions.
A proactive mindset and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving.
The ability to collaborate effectively with Sales, Partners, and technical stakeholders.
Good organisation and attention to detail when documenting technical evaluations and opportunity progress.
Compensation and career development
Total compensation package: €48,656.00.
This is the stated total compensation package; the breakdown between fixed pay and any variable components has not been provided and should be confirmed during recruitment.

A flight ticket to Barcelona.
Private individual studio accommodation, subject to availability.
Assistance with relocation arrangements and required documentation.
Specific eligibility criteria, accommodation arrangements, and relocation terms should be confirmed with the recruiter.
Who will thrive in this role?
This opportunity is particularly suited to a professional who:
Enjoys working at the intersection of technology, architecture, and business.
Can move confidently between technical discussions and commercial objectives.
Likes evaluating solutions, building prototypes, and demonstrating technical value.
Understands how infrastructure, data platforms, networking, and application integrations fit together.
Can influence technical decisions through clear explanations and evidence-based recommendations.
Wants to expand their impact beyond implementation by helping shape cloud sales opportunities and adoption strategies.
If you enjoy helping organisations solve complex technology challenges and can translate engineering expertise into business value, this role offers an opportunity to make that impact in a cloud-focused environment.
