INFICON is a leading provider of innovative instrumentation, critical sensor technologies, and Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 software solutions that enhance productivity and quality of tools, processes, and complete factories. These analysis, measurement and control products are essential for gas leak detection in air conditioning/refrigeration and automotive manufacturing. They are vital to equipment manufacturers and end-users in the complex fabrication of semiconductors and thin film coatings for optics, flat panel displays, solar cells and industrial vacuum coating applications. Other users of our vacuum-based processes include the life sciences, research, aerospace, packaging, heat treatment, laser cutting and many other industrial processes. We also leverage our expertise in vacuum technology to provide unique, toxic chemical analysis products for emergency response, security, and environmental health and safety.
If you enjoy the moment when a circuit that so far existed only on paper starts to work on the bench, this role is for you. We are looking for a high-potential Electrical Engineer at the beginning of their career, with a strong academic foundation, sound engineering judgment, and the drive to take ownership of your work, also when the path is not fully defined, and to deliver results. Our products increasingly combine hardware, firmware, and AI to bring real-time intelligence to the instrument, and you will contribute to them from the first breadboard to production and field support.
You will join INFICON's Electrical Engineering team at our Syracuse, NY location, which designs the precision electronics at the heart of our sensor and instrumentation products. The team works across the full spectrum of electronics: high-precision analog circuits, digital systems, embedded systems, RF electronics, power supplies, PCB layout, component selection, and prototype testing, from breadboard-level MVPs delivered directly into customer hands to series production designs. We measure currents in the nanoampere range and capacitances in the femtofarad range, and we ship these circuits into products used in the fabrication of the most advanced semiconductors, medical devices, automotive, energy and security applications, space exploration, and more.
You will work side by side with experienced engineers who guide you, and we expect you to take on more responsibility as your skills grow. Over time, this role can develop into a senior or lead position along the technical career track.
Key Responsibilities
Support the design of electronic subsystems, from schematic capture to PCB layout and production launch, under the guidance of senior engineers.
Build, test, and debug breadboards and prototypes, and perform validation measurements in the lab.
Support sustaining engineering, including troubleshooting field issues, managing component obsolescence, and cost-reduction initiatives.
Write and maintain design documentation, test plans, and test reports.
Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to integrate your circuits into larger system architectures.
Work within a cross-functional Agile team, participating in sprints to iterate quickly on prototypes.
Learn and apply a lean, hypothesis-driven approach: build early prototypes, get them into customers' hands, validate assumptions, and iterate.
Explore emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, and share what you learn with the team.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Required Skills & Experience
Solid foundation in analog and digital circuit design.
Hands-on laboratory skills, for example with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Cadence OrCAD or similar.
Experience with microcontroller and embedded systems.
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Exposure to MCUs, DSPs, or FPGAs, power management, or EMI/EMC compliance.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar) and with tools such as Jira.
Curiosity about what's beyond electronics: You are excited about working with physicists, chemists, materials scientists, software and mechanical engineers to bring a product vision to life.
The expected salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $95,000 per year. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. In addition, INFICON employees are eligible for a profit-sharing bonus with a target of 10% as well as 401K match up to 8% (vesting schedule).
INFICON provides a dynamic work environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our employees experience ongoing green initiatives, flexible work hours, and a variety of health and wellness programs.
INFICON’s forward-thinking approach offers countless opportunities to design, support, and manufacture a diverse product portfolio that expands globally. Our Lean and Agile work environment offers competitive compensation, relocation assistance, a discretionary bonus, and generous employee benefits; major medical, dental, health, vision, 401K, vacation and sick time, tuition reimbursement, and more!
