POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for producing sound, code- and specification-compliant welds on fabricated pipe assemblies in a custom fabrication environment. The Pipe Welder works from drawings, weld symbols, job requirements, and applicable Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), coordinating closely with pipe fitters to verify joint preparation and fit-up before welding. Relocation assistance available if moving from out of the area up to $4500.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform pipe welding in the processes and positions required by assigned work and applicable WPS requirements.
  • Review drawings, weld symbols, joint details, and job specifications before beginning work.
  • Verify joint preparation, bevel condition, root opening, alignment, cleanliness, and fit-up before welding; communicate problems rather than welding over an incorrect fit-up.
  • Produce consistent root, fill, and cap passes as required while maintaining proper profile, penetration, fusion, and overall weld quality.
  • Control heat input and welding sequence to help minimize distortion and movement of fabricated assemblies.
  • Identify visible weld defects or workmanship concerns and correct or report them before the assembly moves to the next operation.
  • Use welding machines, grinders, torches, hand tools, and related equipment safely and correctly.
  • Perform weld cleanup and preparation between passes as required by the process, WPS, or job requirements.
  • Coordinate with fitters, supervision, and Quality personnel when drawings, fit-up, materials, or weld requirements are unclear.
  • Maintain productive work habits while protecting weld quality and job requirements.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous pipe welding experience in an industrial or fabrication environment preferred.
  • Ability to pass the applicable M J & H Fabrication weld test(s) for the work being performed.
  • Working knowledge of pipe joint preparation, welding positions, weld sequencing, and common pipe fabrication practices.
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and WPS requirements.
  • Experience with applicable welding processes used for fabricated pipe work is preferred.
  • Ability to use common measuring tools and verify basic dimensions and fit-up.
  • SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong welding technique and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to recognize improper joint preparation, alignment, contamination, or fit-up before welding.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and job-specific requirements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving job instructions and communicate problems promptly
SAFETY & QUALITY EXPECTATIONS
  • Regularly stand, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in fabrication positions required to access pipe joints.
  • Lift and handle tools, leads, consumables, and fabrication materials within safe working limits.
  • Work around welding arc, sparks, grinding, heat, noise, fumes, and moving fabrication equipment.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE and safely perform work in a fabrication shop environment.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, hot-work practices, and equipment procedures.
  • Follow applicable WPS, drawing, and job requirements; do not make unauthorized changes to weld details or procedures.
  • Protect material identification and traceability where required.
  • Maintain clean work surfaces and prevent contamination that may affect weld quality.
  • Report drawing discrepancies, damaged material, poor fit-up, or other conditions that could affect the finished assembly.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay is dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications. Insurance benefits are available after successful completion of the probationary period.
