Responsible for producing sound, code- and specification-compliant welds on fabricated pipe assemblies in a custom fabrication environment. The Pipe Welder works from drawings, weld symbols, job requirements, and applicable Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), coordinating closely with pipe fitters to verify joint preparation and fit-up before welding. Relocation assistance available if moving from out of the area up to $4500.
Primary Responsibilities
Pay is dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications. Insurance benefits are available after successful completion of the probationary period.

Position Summary

Primary Responsibilities
- Perform pipe welding in the processes and positions required by assigned work and applicable WPS requirements
- Review drawings, weld symbols, joint details, and job specifications before beginning work
- Verify joint preparation, bevel condition, root opening, alignment, cleanliness, and fit-up before welding; communicate problems rather than welding over an incorrect fit-up
- Produce consistent root, fill, and cap passes as required while maintaining proper profile, penetration, fusion, and overall weld quality
- Control heat input and welding sequence to help minimize distortion and movement of fabricated assemblies
- Identify visible weld defects or workmanship concerns and correct or report them before the assembly moves to the next operation
- Use welding machines, grinders, torches, hand tools, and related equipment safely and correctly
- Perform weld cleanup and preparation between passes as required by the process, WPS, or job requirements
- Coordinate with fitters, supervision, and Quality personnel when drawings, fit-up, materials, or weld requirements are unclear
- Maintain productive work habits while protecting weld quality and job requirements
- Previous pipe welding experience in an industrial or fabrication environment preferred
- Ability to pass the applicable M J & H Fabrication weld test(s) for the work being performed
- Working knowledge of pipe joint preparation, welding positions, weld sequencing, and common pipe fabrication practices
- Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and WPS requirements
- Experience with applicable welding processes used for fabricated pipe work is preferred
- Ability to use common measuring tools and verify basic dimensions and fit-up
- SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong welding technique and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to recognize improper joint preparation, alignment, contamination, or fit-up before welding
- Ability to follow written procedures and job-specific requirements
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently after receiving job instructions and communicate problems promptly
- Regularly stand, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in fabrication positions required to access pipe joints
- Lift and handle tools, leads, consumables, and fabrication materials within safe working limits
- Work around welding arc, sparks, grinding, heat, noise, fumes, and moving fabrication equipment
- Must be able to wear required PPE and safely perform work in a fabrication shop environment
- Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, hot-work practices, and equipment procedures
- Follow applicable WPS, drawing, and job requirements; do not make unauthorized changes to weld details or procedures
- Protect material identification and traceability where required
- Maintain clean work surfaces and prevent contamination that may affect weld quality
- Report drawing discrepancies, damaged material, poor fit-up, or other conditions that could affect the finished assembly
