Our client is an established power technology company developing and manufacturing advanced power solutions for demanding, mission-critical applications. The organization works at the intersection of power electronics, engineering, manufacturing and customer-driven product development.

This is a hands-on Principal Electrical Engineer opportunity for a senior power electronics expert who wants to remain deeply involved in technical design while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers and helping drive products from concept through production.

Position Overview

The Principal Electrical Engineer will serve as a senior technical authority for advanced switch-mode power supply products. This individual will lead complex electrical engineering projects, resolve difficult technical problems, guide technical decisions and collaborate closely with customers, manufacturing and cross-functional teams.

• Lead end-to-end electrical engineering projects from architecture and concept development through design, testing, compliance, manufacturing and product release.
• Design advanced switch-mode power supplies with emphasis on performance, reliability, testability, manufacturability, cost and schedule.
• Apply deep technical knowledge of MOSFETs, power semiconductor components, high-frequency magnetics, analog circuitry and power conversion topologies.
• Diagnose and resolve challenging technical problems, including root-cause analysis and EMC-related issues. • Collaborate with Program Management, R&D, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, marketing and supply chain.
• Provide technical input into mechanical and thermal design and support system-level integration.
• Develop technical documentation, engineering estimates, bills of material, project plans, status updates, procedures and product instructions.
• Support product quoting with engineering cost, resource, risk and time-to-completion estimates.
• Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, communicate tradeoffs and guide technical decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction that strengthens team capability and design quality.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience developing electronic power conversion products.
• Established success designing switch-mode power supplies and bringing designs through development and production.
• Strong technical knowledge applied to switch-mode power supply design.
• Experience with high-frequency magnetic component design and debugging EMC issues.
• Ability to design advanced power products with minimal supervision and provide sound technical leadership.
• Experience designing for testability, manufacturability, performance, reliability and cost.
• Strong customer, stakeholder and technical communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, manage competing priorities and solve problems quickly in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Hackettstown, NJ.

Preferred Background

• Experience designing microcontroller-based reporting and control for power electronics.
• Experience with agency compliance requirements such as UL, CSA, VDE and CE.
• Familiarity with product-development tools, processes and product lifecycle management.
• Semiconductor capital equipment or another fast-paced, technically demanding market background.
