Principal Engineer

About the Role

The Principal Engineer sets the bar for how Seven Peaks engineers build software with AI, and stays hands-on in client codebases. As more code is written with AI, you make sure our teams still specify, review, test and ship it well, so the gain is real for every team and not only for the fastest individual. You shape how a whole engineering unit works with AI, across a varied client portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Set the engineering standards for AI-native coding: how tasks are specified and broken down, how code is reviewed and tested, secure coding, and which decisions an engineer must make rather than AI, so AI never approves its own work.
• Make automated checks (types, tests, static analysis) the first line of review, with AI review on top, and keep review and test practice in step as code volume grows, working with Platform Engineering, who run CI. Keep standards practical and tool-neutral.
• Use metrics like rework, defect and review-time signals to find where the process gets stuck, not to score people.
• Define the engineering content of our review and release gates: which changes need senior human review before merge and what test evidence is required, matched to the risk. Agree these with the Principal AI Engineer, so they become part of the AI Delivery System.
• Work hands-on in client codebases on the hardest problems, such as code-level performance, reliability and critical refactoring, and lead the code-level fix when the management brings you in on a quality or reliability problem.
• Grow engineers by doing the work alongside them: pairing, code review and guided work on real projects.
• Help the People team and the engineering leads describe good AI-enabled engineering at each career level.
• Turn patterns that repeat across projects into shared templates or checks, agreed with the Principal AI Engineer.

Key Measures of Success

• Your contribution to standards are agreed with the the rest of the management and used across the teams.
• Teams using your standards ship AI-assisted code without a rise in rework or escaped defects, measured against an agreed baseline you help set before adoption.
• The Principal AI Engineer has an agreed, prioritized set of your standards to build into the AI Delivery System.
• Projects you step into show measurable improvement in defects, rework or reliability against where they started.

Qualifications — Required

• Extensive hands-on software engineering experience, deep in at least one area (backend, web, mobile or platform) and broad across others.
• Serious daily use of AI coding agents in production work, and a clear view of where they fail and what they really cost to get to reviewed, working code.
• Strong in software design, code review, testing strategy, CI/CD and secure coding.
• A track record of engineering standards adopted across several teams.
• Comfortable in client environments, explaining engineering trade-offs to client technical leads.
• Able to coach senior and mid-level engineers.
• Fluent in English, spoken and written.

Qualifications — Preferred

• Experience building developer platforms, internal tooling or delivery automation, or contributions to open source.
• Thai nationality is preferred, but not required.
