Salaried GP | Shetland Islands, Scotland
Permanent | Full time (40 hours) or part time | 2 to 3 posts | No on-call | No weekends
Imagine finishing clinic and being on a quiet beach within ten minutes.
Shetland is a different way of life. Wild coastlines, puffins and seals, long summer evenings when it never quite gets dark, and a warm, close-knit community where you really get to know your patients and they get to know you. There is no rush hour and no long commute, just time: time with patients, time with your family and time for yourself.
Two well-supported NHS GP practices on Shetland are looking for salaried GPs to join their teams. If you are ready to step off the treadmill and practise medicine the way you always wanted to, we would love to hear from you.
The package
• £86,889 to £129,538 depending on experience (including island supplement)
• Golden hello of up to £10,000 for GPs taking up a post in Scotland for the first time
• Relocation assistance of up to £8,000
• No on-call commitment and no weekend working
• Optional, paid out-of-hours sessions if you want them
• Fully funded BASICS pre-hospital emergency care training
• Full time or part time considered
The practices
• Town practice: a training and retainer practice with protected learning and governance time every week, an in-house pharmacist, physiotherapist and ANP team, and community mental health and district nursing in the same building. They even have an electric fleet (and a popular electric bike) for home visits.
• Village practice: a close-knit, non-dispensing practice serving a community of around 2,400, using EMIS, with a pharmacy on site and strong MDT support from ANPs, practice nurses, pharmacists, community link workers and HCSWs.
Neither practice is single-handed, and you will be supported to develop your special interests.
Life on Shetland
• A safe, friendly community, perfect for families, with excellent schools and children who still play outside
• Low crime, clean air and breathtaking scenery on your doorstep
• Eight leisure centres, a state-of-the-art cinema and arts venue, and a thriving music and cultural scene
• Walking, sailing, rowing, wildlife watching and some of the best night skies in the UK, including the Northern Lights
• A short flight to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow
What you will need
• GMC registration with a licence to practise and inclusion on the GP Register
• Eligibility to join a Scottish Performers List
• Membership of the PVG scheme (or willingness to join)
No specific experience is required, and newly qualified GPs are very welcome to apply.
