Take one of the world's most respected macro investment processes to the largest pools of capital in the world. A senior strategist seat for someone who has invested, and wants to spend their time on the thinking and the client.
Our client is one of the world's largest global macro investors. This role sits inside the investment business that manages the majority of its assets, serving its most important institutional clients - pensions, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and central banks.
The seat combines two things rarely found together: real input into an investment process, and direct access to the CIOs and investment committees allocating billions to it. You will carry the firm's macro thinking to those clients, adapt it to the problems each one faces - from asset allocation to portfolio construction - and bring what you learn back into the research.
It is a deliberate investment in a senior person. Expect a genuine learning curve in the firm's framework over the first two years, and extensive global travel.
You will:
- Represent the firm's macro views to CIOs, investment committees and boards at pensions, endowments and sovereign pools globally
- Translate a rigorous, systematic house view into conclusions allocators can act on, across asset classes and regions
- Write thematic research under your own name on the long-run forces driving markets
- Work through clients' portfolio questions - asset allocation, risk, portfolio construction - with the firm's investment team
- Build indicators and analysis that feed back into the investment process
- Own the intellectual relationship with a portfolio of the firm's most important clients
You bring:
- Investment experience: you have managed capital, sat on the investment committee that does, or set the macro view inside a fund's investment process
- Breadth across global macro - rates, FX, equities, commodities and the economy - with the depth to get into the detail of any of them
- A track record of writing your own research
- Experience in front of sophisticated institutional investors, and an appetite for heavy travel
- Senior standing: Director / Managing Director on the sell side, or the buy-side equivalent
- Backgrounds that fit well: in-house macro strategists and heads of macro research at hedge funds and multi-strategy platforms; multi-asset and asset-allocation strategists at asset managers and asset owners; global cross-asset strategists on the sell side
- Visa sponsorship is available
This will suit someone who wants to be a strategist. It is less likely to suit a portfolio manager who wants to keep running their own book, a specialist who wants to stay in one asset class, or someone whose clients have mainly been private wealth.
