Senior Principal Software Engineer

We’re working with a growing technical organisation in Newcastle that is investing significantly in its engineering capability.

We’re looking to speak with experienced Software Engineers who have progressed beyond simply delivering against predefined requirements and are comfortable taking ownership of complex, sometimes ambiguous technical problems.

This isn’t about having one specific technology stack.

We’re interested in engineers who can understand a problem, work out the right technical approach and take a solution from initial thinking through to delivery.

What are we looking for?

Your background could be in:

• Software and application engineering
• Backend development
• Systems or low-level software
• Embedded and real-time engineering
• Cloud and platform engineering
• Technical architecture or engineering leadership

Technically, your experience could include C#/.NET, Java, Python, C++, Rust, Linux, cloud technologies or modern web development.

You don't need experience across all of these.

We're much more interested in the depth of your engineering experience, how you approach difficult problems and the impact you've had on the technical work around you.

At this level, we'd expect you to have experience in areas such as:

• Taking ownership of complex technical problems
• Turning ambiguous requirements into practical engineering solutions
• Influencing technical direction and architecture
• Maintaining high standards around engineering quality
• Supporting and mentoring other engineers
• Working directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Remaining hands-on with design and development

This could suit someone already operating at Senior, Lead or Principal level who wants greater technical ownership without having to move into a purely people-management role.
