This is an opportunity to join an established Australian construction contractor as they continue expanding their presence in the rapidly growing data centre sector.

You will play a key role in the delivery of a major hyperscale data centre development in Sydney, taking ownership of complex construction activities across structural, mechanical and electrical interfaces.

Rather than stepping into an established project team, you will join a growing division at an early stage, with the opportunity to shape delivery processes, lead engineers and take on significant responsibility as the business expands.

For an experienced Senior Project Engineer with previous data centre construction experience, this offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, take greater ownership of delivery and progress towards Project Management.

About the role

Reporting to the Construction / Operations Manager, you will take a leading role in coordinating engineering and construction activities on a major data centre development in Sydney.

You will be responsible for managing construction programming, design coordination, subcontractor interfaces and technical delivery, with a particular focus on the integration of structural works and mechanical and electrical services.

The position requires a strong understanding of data centre construction methodologies, including off-site prefabrication, complex services coordination, construction sequencing and critical-path programming.

You will also provide leadership to a team of Project Engineers and Site Engineers, supporting their development while ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.

The successful candidate will ideally commence in January 2027, although an earlier start can be accommodated to support preconstruction and tendering activities.

Duties

• Lead engineering and construction delivery activities across major data centre packages
• Coordinate structural, mechanical and electrical interfaces throughout construction
• Develop and manage construction programmes, sequencing and critical-path activities
• Oversee the integration of off-site prefabricated systems into construction delivery
• Coordinate design, procurement and construction activities to maintain project milestones
• Identify technical and programme risks, implementing effective mitigation strategies
• Manage subcontractor interfaces, construction methodologies and technical coordination
• Work closely with commercial teams on procurement, variations and cost management
• Oversee quality assurance, inspections, ITPs and compliance with project specifications
• Support testing, commissioning, defects management and project handover
• Lead, mentor and develop Project Engineers and Site Engineers
• Collaborate with the wider project leadership team to drive successful delivery outcomes

Skills & experience

• 7–10+ years' experience in project engineering or construction delivery positions
• Previous data centre construction experience is essential, ideally having completed at least one full project lifecycle
• Experience delivering large-scale data centre projects, preferably 100MW+
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical services within data centre construction
• Demonstrated experience managing structural and MEP interfaces on complex building projects
• Knowledge of off-site prefabrication, modular construction and installation sequencing
• Strong construction programming experience, including critical-path management and construction sequencing
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary subcontractors, consultants and engineering teams
• Understanding of design management, procurement and construction methodologies
• Exposure to subcontractor commercial management, variations and financial forecasting
• Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers
• Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
• Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
