Job Requirements
Daman is expanding beyond health into commercial property & casualty insurance. We’re building an energy underwriting book from the ground up, and you’ll be one of the people who shape it: setting guidelines, building broker relationships and writing profitable business across the region’s onshore and downstream energy sector.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new and renewal energy risks (refining, petrochemicals, power and utilities, onshore oil & gas) within your delegated authority.
- Price risks with the actuarial team, using benchmarking, loss history and exposure modelling.
- Help write Daman’s energy underwriting guidelines, risk appetite and pricing framework.
- Build and manage relationships with regional and international brokers, and meet production and retention targets.
- Structure reinsurance protection for large risks with the reinsurance team.
- Review risk-engineering survey reports and set risk-improvement conditions.
- Monitor portfolio performance: premium, rate adequacy, loss ratio and accumulation exposure.
- Contribute to the business plan, budgets and forecasts for the energy line.
- Ensure compliance with Central Bank of the UAE insurance regulations and internal governance.
- Mentor junior underwriters as the team grows.
Work Experience
- 8+ years of energy or large commercial property underwriting, at least 3 of them in the Middle East.
- A network of regional energy brokers you can activate quickly.
- Strong technical knowledge of downstream energy and power risks, including business interruption.
- Hands-on experience with facultative and treaty reinsurance.
- Proven track record of building or growing a profitable portfolio.
- Strong analytical, pricing and negotiation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, actuarial science or risk management.
- ACII / Dip CII or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Arabic is an advantage.
Benefits
- Competitive tax-free salary (AED 40,000 – 55,000 per month) plus housing, transport and education allowances.
- Annual return flights for you and your family (expatriates).
- Comprehensive medical cover for you and your dependants.
- Relocation support.
- Professional qualification sponsorship (CII and others).
- Performance bonus linked to portfolio results.
- 30 days’ annual leave.
- A founding role in a new business line, with visibility to senior leadership.
