Lead great people. Strengthen communities. Help children and families thrive.

We believe that strong services start with strong people. That is why we are looking for an experienced and values-led Service Manager to lead our Foster & Kinship Care and Counselling services in Mackay.

This is a new opportunity to lead established services that make a real difference in the lives of children, young people and families. You will lead, support and develop a team of leaders, practitioners and administration professionals, strengthen community partnerships, and help create safe, positive outcomes for the people we serve.

The Opportunity

As Service Manager, you will provide leadership across our Foster & Kinship Care and Counselling services, supporting your teams to deliver high-quality outcomes while fostering a culture where people feel connected, valued and supported.

This is a hands-on role working closely with carers, families, community partners, Child Safety and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, strengthening relationships that help children and young people experience safety, belonging and stability.

You will be excited for developing people, building partnerships and creating an environment where both teams and services can thrive.

In This Role As Service Manager, You Will

  • Oversee daily service operations, meeting client and organisational standards, managing feedback, and identifying support opportunities.
  • Develop business cases and funding applications while actively engaging in benchmarking to meet service targets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funding bodies, stakeholders, and partners, and lead negotiations for contracts and funding agreements.
  • Manage service budgets and rostering, ensuring financial targets and reporting requirements are met.
  • Create a culturally safe environment, working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to address over-representation in care.
  • Lead, coach and develop Team Leaders and multidisciplinary teams, building capability, engagement and a positive workplace culture.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and adhere to legislative and regulatory requirements in service delivery.
  • Support foster carer recruitment, retention and engagement initiatives across the Mackay region.

What You Will Bring

You’re an experienced and values-driven leader with a background in social welfare and child protection. With sound financial acumen, technical proficiency, and a collaborative approach, you’re ready to lead a team and make a meaningful impact.

To be considered for the role, you will also have:

  • Mandatory degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in child protection, youth services or family support work.
  • Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks related to children, youth and family services.
  • Experiences in financial management, budgeting and resource planning.
  • A current driver’s licence (P2 minimum) is required for the role and willingness to travel to operational sites regularly.
  • Proven ability to identify business development opportunities, operating model requirements, and customer experience improvements.

Essential For The Role.

Child Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Our robust screening and recruitment processes help ensure we engage the right people to support children and young people. This role will require the following to be obtained before commencing:
