Tax Associate (Long Island)

Pay: $60,000 – $75,000 per year depending on experience and license

About the role

HHL Advisors Group is a growing boutique CPA firm serving small businesses, emerging middle-market companies and high-net-worth individuals across New York and nationally, with offices in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, Dallas, Kansas and Raleigh. Our Long Island office is hiring a Tax Associate to prepare returns, support client accounting, and grow into a client-facing advisory role. You will work directly with senior staff and the firm’s founding partner, and strong performers have a clear path to senior and partner-track positions within the firm.

What you will do

• Prepare federal and state tax returns for S corporations, partnerships, C corporations, trusts and individuals using professional tax software
• Assist with bookkeeping, account reconciliations and quarterly payroll tax filings for business clients
• Gather client information, request documents and provide status updates in clear, professional communication
• Support tax planning projects and research for senior team members
• Draft responses to IRS and state notices under supervision
• Manage assigned deadlines and workload through tax season

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation
• 1 to 3 years of tax preparation or public accounting experience
• EA, CPA candidate, or a plan to pursue a license, strongly preferred
• Proficiency in Excel and Word; experience with Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte or QuickBooks a plus
• Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly with small business owners
