A pioneering quantum computing company is seeking a talented Quantum Error Correction Researchers / Theorists to help define the fault-tolerance strategy for a next-generation neutral atom quantum computing platform.

Quantum computing's true potential depends on the development of large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. This role sits at the heart of that challenge, focusing on the design and implementation of quantum error correction protocols, logical architectures, and fault-tolerant operations that can be deployed on real hardware.

Working at the intersection of theory and experiment, you will help shape the architecture of future quantum processors while collaborating closely with world-class teams across hardware, engineering, control systems, and software.

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary quantum research team, you will develop fault-tolerant architectures and quantum error correction protocols for neutral atom quantum computers.

You will design strategies for logical qubits and operations, optimise protocols around the unique capabilities of neutral atom hardware, and work closely with experimental teams to bring these concepts from theory into practical implementation.

The role combines world-class research with real-world impact, making it ideal for candidates who want to contribute to both scientific advancement and the development of scalable quantum technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyse fault-tolerant circuits for syndrome measurement and logical operations
• Develop and optimise quantum error correction strategies for neutral atom hardware
• Design logical qubit layouts and fault-tolerant architectures for scalable quantum computation
• Optimise protocols while accounting for hardware-specific constraints, including atom transport and device connectivity
• Collaborate with engineering, software, control systems, and experimental physics teams to integrate fault-tolerant protocols into quantum hardware
• Define software and hardware requirements necessary for fault-tolerant computation
• Implement and evaluate quantum error correction techniques on quantum devices
• Publish research findings and contribute to the advancement of the broader quantum computing community

Required Experience

• PhD or equivalent experience in:
• Quantum Information
• Physics
• Computer Science
• Mathematics
• A related scientific or technical discipline
• Strong background in:
• Quantum error correction
• Fault-tolerant quantum computing
• Quantum information theory
• Proven research record demonstrated through scientific publications, conference presentations, or significant technical contributions
• Ability to work effectively within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams
• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical implementation strategies

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly advantageous:

• Quantum LDPC (qLDPC) codes
• Magic state distillation
• Fault-tolerant gate synthesis
• Lattice surgery
• Quantum circuit compilation and optimisation
• Quantum code development and architecture design
• Numerical simulation and performance analysis of error correction protocols
• Python, Rust, Julia, C++, or similar programming languages
• Collaborative software development using Git
• Hardware-aware quantum computing architectures
• Implementation of fault-tolerant protocols on experimental quantum systems
• Experience working with AMO physics, neutral atom platforms, trapped ions, or related quantum hardware technologies
