We are looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to help transform how engineering teams build, deploy and manage cloud-based services.

The role involves designing, developing and enhancing an internal developer platform that promotes automation, scalability, security and operational excellence. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving developer productivity and streamlining software delivery through robust, reliable and reusable platform solutions.

As part of the Developer Experience team, the Senior Platform Engineer will contribute to the evolution of the organisation’s engineering environment, enabling development teams to build, deploy and operate services efficiently and securely. This position offers an opportunity to influence platform architecture, champion engineering best practices and deliver innovative solutions that support reliable software delivery at scale.

Functions

• Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to establish standardised, repeatable and scalable cloud environments.
• Develop and optimise cloud-based CI/CD pipelines to facilitate efficient software delivery, frequent releases and reduced deployment risk.
• Drive the ongoing development of the internal developer platform, enabling engineering teams to provision infrastructure and deploy applications with greater efficiency.
• Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure, platform and performance challenges across distributed environments, conducting root-cause analysis and implementing long-term improvements.
• Participate in architectural planning and technical decisions involving microservices, event-driven architectures and modern cloud-native design principles.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers while promoting engineering excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement across the team.

The team

The Senior Platform Engineer will be part of a Platform Engineering function focused on enhancing developer experience, managing Kubernetes environments and providing platform support. The role sits within the team responsible for building, maintaining and improving the internal developer platform, which provides engineers with the tools and capabilities required to provision infrastructure, develop CI/CD pipelines and deploy applications to cloud environments.

The platform serves multiple development teams across the organisation and is a key enabler of scalable, efficient and reliable software delivery. The team consists of engineers with varying levels of experience, and this appointment will strengthen senior technical capability, support architectural decisions and drive continuous improvements in platform engineering practices.

Experience

• Extensive background in Platform Engineering, DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), preferably within complex, large-scale technology environments.
• At least five years of practical experience working with cloud infrastructure, platforms and services.
• Demonstrated expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), using technologies such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation or equivalent tools.
• Strong experience designing, implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions or similar automation platforms.
• Hands-on expertise in container technologies and orchestration, with particular emphasis on Kubernetes.
• Proven ability to design, deploy and maintain cloud-native solutions, including microservices architectures and event-driven systems.
• Strong scripting and programming skills in languages such as Python, Go, Bash or PowerShell, with a focus on automation and operational efficiency.
• Practical experience with public cloud platforms, particularly AWS or Microsoft Azure. Relevant industry certifications will be an advantage.
• Comprehensive understanding of networking, cybersecurity principles, API technologies, databases and distributed systems.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively and articulate architectural decisions, design approaches and solutions implemented.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical guidance, influencing engineering standards and best practices, and mentoring colleagues.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on improving platform performance, resilience, reliability and scalability.

• A relevant degree in Information Technology

• Certification in AWS Architecture
