jumpAGrade is an Irish education nonprofit working to improve access to educational support for underrepresented and disadvantaged post-primary students. We provide personalised online tuition, through one-to-one sessions and group classes.
We want to extend this support by piloting an innovative new tutoring model combining student tutors with the deep personalisation of AI-powered tutoring that enables students to practise independently, strengthen their understanding and receive personalised learning support between human-led sessions.
Our aim is to make high-quality, individualised learning support more accessible, helping students build knowledge, confidence and independence while giving our tutors actionable insights to better support their progress.
Role outline:
We are looking for a project lead with a background in post-primary teaching (ideally Maths/STEM), educational technology/AI to lead the development and delivery of our NextGen Tutor project
This is an opportunity for a teacher or education professional who is excited by the potential of AI to transform learning and wants to put that potential into practice.
You will recruit, train and support university student tutors to become effective online tutors, while working with teachers and AI specialists to develop and test AI-supported learning resources aligned with the school curriculum.
The ideal candidate combines a strong understanding of teaching and learning with practical experience of digital education including AI tools. You do not need to be a software developer, but you should be curious, confident experimenting with AI and able to translate educational needs into practical learning solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and launch the NextGen Tutor Training Academy
- Build relationships with universities, access offices and relevant academic departments to recruit student volunteers, prioritising candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with relevant lived experience.
- Design and deliver a structured tutor training programme, including online modules, a live workshop and ongoing support.
- Train tutors in digital pedagogy, effective mentoring, child safeguarding, trauma-informed practice and the responsible use of AI learning tools.
- Supervise and mentor tutors throughout the pilot, monitoring delivery quality, engagement and training needs.
- Develop reusable training resources and processes to support future expansion.
2. Support AI-enabled learning design
- Work with teachers to align AI-supported tutoring with the school curriculum.
- Help develop and test AI prompts, diagnostic activities, personalised learning plans, practice exercises and feedback approaches.
- Explore existing AI tools and identify practical ways to improve personalisation, student engagement and tutor effectiveness.
- Train and support volunteer tutors in using AI tools appropriately to guide student learning.
- Gather feedback from tutors, students and teachers and use it to improve prompts, learning resources and delivery methods.
3. Coordinate delivery and evaluate impact
- Support the implementation of the tutoring model across participating schools.
- Monitor tutor participation, training completion, session delivery and student engagement.
- Work with the jumpAgrade team to gather feedback and assess student confidence, learning progress and programme quality.
- Identify what works, document lessons learned and contribute to project evaluation and recommendations for future development.
Essential Requirements
Experience in post-primary teaching, teacher education, tutoring, learning design or another relevant educational setting.
A strong understanding of effective teaching and learning, assessment and student engagement.
Practical experience using AI tools or digital learning technologies, with a clear interest in developing this expertise further.
The ability to design engaging learning activities and explain complex concepts clearly.
Experience supporting, training, mentoring or coordinating other people.
Strong organisational, communication and relationship-building skills.
A commitment to educational equity, inclusion and the safe, responsible use of technology with young people.
Desirable Experience
- Qualified post-primary teacher with experience of the Irish Leaving Certificate curriculum
- Experience using generative AI to support lesson planning, assessment, feedback or personalised learning.
- Experience developing AI prompts, digital learning resources, diagnostics or adaptive learning activities.
- Experience recruiting, training or supervising volunteers, student mentors or tutors.
- Experience working with DEIS schools or young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms, safeguarding and trauma-informed practice.
- Experience monitoring programme outcomes or contributing to educational evaluation.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of the pilot, you will have helped JumpAgrade to:
- Establish a sustainable university student recruitment pipeline.
- Design and deliver a structured, high-quality Tutor Academy consisting of self-paced online training modules, in-person workshops, continuous supervision and mentoring, live tutoring experience and certification/awards ceremony.
- Prepare and support volunteers to deliver safe, engaging and effective AI-enhanced tutoring.
- Develop and refine a suite of curriculum-aligned AI learning resources and supports for both teachers/tutors and students.
- Use feedback and evaluation evidence to improve the model and inform future expansion.
