Role Description My Role as Background Painter and Environment Artist is being responsible for creating visually compelling environments for comics and animated projects. Day-to-day tasks include painting detailed backgrounds, designing settings that reflect African-inspired worlds, and ensuring environments support storytelling and character action. As the artist I collaborate with directors, storyboard artists, and animators to maintain consistent style, mood, and color palettes across projects. Responsibilities also include refining environment concepts from rough sketches, optimizing artwork for production workflows, and delivering assets on schedule. Clear communication with the creative team and openness to feedback and revisions are essential.
Qualifications

• Strong 2D art and painting skills, with the ability to paint atmospheric and detailed backgrounds.
• Knowledge of animation pipelines and experience creating environments suitable for animated productions.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with remote creative teams and responding to feedback.
• Familiarity with digital painting tools (e.g., Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, or similar software).
• Understanding of color, lighting, composition, and visual storytelling, especially for environment design.
• Portfolio demonstrating background painting, environment art, and stylistic range, ideally with Afrocentric or fantasy themes.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
• Previous experience in comics, animation, or game art is an advantage, as is knowledge of African cultures and visual motifs.
