Job Description This is a remote position. The Opportunity: At Pentoz, we empower independent creators, artists, and boutique brands through beautifully crafted digital commerce experiences. As a Big Cartel Developer, you will be responsible for designing, customizing, and optimizing online stores using the Big Cartel platform. This role blends creative design with front-end development and focuses on supporting smaller merchants in building expressive, functional, and high-converting online shops. You will work closely with design teams and marketing strategists to deliver visually engaging and technically sound eCommerce storefronts. You Will Be Responsible For: Storefront Customization: Designing and modifying Big Cartel themes using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid templating to match brand aesthetics and business needs. Template Development: Creating and maintaining custom storefront templates, layouts, and responsive designs. Feature Enhancement: Adding or integrating features through JavaScript-based enhancements or third-party tools such as payment systems, analytics, and social integrations. Performance Optimization: Ensuring mobile responsiveness, fast loading times, and SEO-friendly markup across all storefronts. Client Collaboration: Working with creative brands and internal teams to gather requirements, propose solutions, and deliver high-quality results on tight timelines. Maintenance and Support: Troubleshooting layout issues, browser inconsistencies, and providing support for existing live stores. This Role Is For You If: You have 1–3 years of experience working with Big Cartel or other lightweight eCommerce platforms. You are proficient in HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript. You have experience working with templating engines like Liquid or similar. You’re design-conscious and familiar with responsive design principles and modern UI/UX practices. You can collaborate with artists, brands, and creatives to bring their digital vision to life. You’re comfortable working independently and can manage multiple client projects simultaneously. Bonus Points If You Have: Experience integrating third-party tools like PayPal, Stripe, Google Analytics, or email marketing platforms. Familiarity with creative brand building, digital merchandising, or eCommerce UX. A portfolio showcasing Big Cartel customizations or eCommerce work for artists, musicians, or independent sellers. Understanding of SEO, accessibility standards, and cross-device testing.
