Purpose of the Position:

The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) will lead MTM’s commercial strategy across government and managed care markets, with responsibility for identifying growth opportunities, developing winning procurement strategies, building strategic partnerships, negotiating complex contracts, and helping design differentiated solutions that deliver measurable value to clients and the communities they serve.

Above all, the CCO will create connectivity between the marketplace and the organization, ensuring we understand what clients and communities need, develop differentiated solutions to address those needs, win the right business, and build partnerships that endure.

Role Overview:

The CCO will serve as a member of the executive leadership team and work closely with leaders across Operations, Product, Technology, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Government Affairs, and other functions to align market opportunities with organizational capabilities and strategy and drive sustainable, profitable growth, and strengthen client and community relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Strategy and Growth:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy focused on sustainable, profitable growth across government, managed care, and other strategic markets.

Government and Managed Care Contracting:

  • Provide executive leadership for complex government and managed care procurement opportunities, including RFPs, rebids, contract expansions, and strategic negotiations.

Client and Community Partnerships:

  • Develop trusted, long-term relationships with government leaders, health plans, community organizations, providers, advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the organization maintains a strong understanding of the communities it serves and incorporates local needs and perspectives into its solutions.
  • Serve as a senior executive representative of the organization with clients, community leaders, and industry stakeholders.

Client-Centered Solution Design:

  • Work closely with clients and internal teams to understand complex business challenges and translate them into innovative, practical solutions.
  • Bring the voice of the client and market into organizational decision-making while balancing customization with scalability and enterprise strategy.

Contract Negotiation and Commercial Discipline:

  • Lead negotiations for significant new and existing client contracts.
  • Develop commercial structures that appropriately balance client expectations, service requirements, risk, and financial return.

Financial and P&L Leadership:

  • Bring demonstrated experience managing a significant P&L and understanding the operational drivers of revenue, margin, cash flow, and return on investment.

Organizational Leadership:

  • Lead the organization’s commercial functions and build an integrated approach to growth, client relationships, market strategy, and brand positioning.

Candidate Profile:

This role requires a leader who combines strong commercial instincts with significant operational and financial experience. The successful candidate will understand how to win business, but equally importantly, how to structure business that can be successfully implemented, operated, and sustained over the long term.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Commercially sophisticated: Understand how to win competitive business while maintaining discipline around economics and risk
  • Client-centered: Begin with the client’s problem rather than simply selling an existing solution
  • Operationally credible: Understand that commitments made during the sales process ultimately have to be delivered by operating teams
  • Strategic and innovative: See where the market is going and help translate those insights into new capabilities, technology, partnerships, and solutions
  • Relationship-oriented: Build genuine, durable relationships with clients, communities, partners, and colleagues
  • Financially disciplined: Understand that revenue growth without appropriate returns is not successful growth
  • Collaborative: Work across organizational boundaries and create shared ownership rather than functional silos
  • Pragmatic and accountable: Move quickly when appropriate, makes sound decisions with imperfect information, and takes responsibility for outcomes

Experience & Education

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or closely related field
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional experience, with responsibilities for Marketing and Business Development supporting proposal/document management efforts.
  • Industry Expertise: Significant executive leadership experience in healthcare, government services, managed care, transportation, logistics, or another complex regulated service industry. Experience building relationships with senior government officials, health plan executives, community organizations, and other external stakeholders. Experience negotiating large, complex, multi-year contracts. Previous experience working as part of a project-oriented team in a deadline-driven, high-volume project environment
  • Financial Acumen: Strong financial acumen and experience evaluating pricing, margins, investments, contractual risk, and long-term economics. Significant P&L leadership experience, preferably involving complex, multi-market operations
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strategic Expertise: Pursue opportunities that are strategically attractive, operationally achievable, and financially sustainable.
  • Stakeholder Management & Business Collaboration: Maintain strong executive relationships with clients throughout the full client lifecycle. Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and introduce new capabilities. Maintain clear accountability between winning the business and successfully delivering on the commitments made to clients.
  • Executive Leadership & Influence: Maintain a strong working partnership with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and operational Regional Vice Presidents, who will remain accountable for market operations, service delivery, client performance, and P&L execution
  • Results Orientation: Demonstrated ability to translate client needs into scalable products, technology solutions, operating models, or service innovations. Demonstrated success winning and retaining significant government and managed care contracts.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to negotiate to benefit the company. Ability to review an RFP in an effort to determine compliance to the client’s document.
