Applying institutional AML standards to on-chain asset management.
Location: Remote, with offices in Prague, Lisbon and Dubai
Engagement: Contractor, full time
Compensation: USD 5,000–6,000 per month gross, plus KPI-based bonuses
Trial period: Six months
ABOUT US
Belem Capital and its affiliates form a digital asset management group with over USD 750 million in assets across the group. Within the group, Statera Labs is regulated by the BVI Financial Services Commission as an Approved Investment Manager. We run separately managed accounts for family offices and institutional clients, fund share classes, and curated on-chain lending vaults across Ethereum, Solana and other major networks.
The team is small, senior and distributed across Europe and the UAE. This role sits at the centre of the business: you will work directly with the founders and the risk team, and your judgement will shape how the group onboards clients, chooses counterparties and engages with regulators.
THE ROLE
You will take ownership of financial-crime compliance across the group: AML, CFT, counter-proliferation financing, sanctions and KYC/KYB. The role is expected to take on the MLRO appointment for Statera Labs, and to support the AML arrangements of Belem Capital's fund vehicles alongside their Luxembourg fund manager and administrator. You will report to the COO, who currently holds the MLRO role and will hand it over to you, with direct access to the Board and the authority to block a client onboarding.
This is not a box-ticking role. Our clients are institutions, our counterparties range from regulated exchanges and banks to stablecoin issuers and DeFi protocols, and the assets we manage sit in smart contracts as well as bank accounts.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Act as MLRO: own the AML/CFT policy, handle internal and external suspicious-activity reporting (BVI FIA and elsewhere as required), and keep the supporting record.
• Run client onboarding (KYC/KYB): due diligence on family offices, funds and corporates, PEP checks, EDD, risk ratings and periodic reviews.
• Own our KYB packs, source-of-funds evidence and compliance questionnaires for exchanges, issuers, banks and protocols.
• Run sanctions screening (OFAC, UN, EU, UK) on clients, counterparties and wallets, and own our on-chain screening policy.
• Vet DeFi protocols, issuers and service providers with the risk team.
• Meet our BVI regulatory obligations and support licence applications in other jurisdictions (currently Bermuda).
• Own the compliance sections of DDQs, RFPs and onboarding forms.
• Maintain the enterprise-wide risk assessment, training, record keeping, the annual independent AML review, FATCA/CRS coordination and group policies.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Sound judgement and integrity above all.
• At least three years in AML/compliance at a regulated financial institution, fund administrator, asset manager, exchange or custodian, including hands-on KYC/KYB and sanctions work.
• Eligibility for appointment as MLRO under regulation 13(3) of the BVI Anti-money Laundering Regulations.
• Working knowledge of FATF standards (including virtual-asset guidance) and sanctions regimes.
• Understanding of wallets, stablecoins, smart contracts and DeFi: you can follow a transaction on a block explorer and read a wallet-screening result.
• Excellent written English.
• Proficient with AI tools and LLMs for drafting, research and document review.
• Discretion, and the ability to work independently across the group.
USEFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED
• Experience acting as, or deputising for, an MLRO.
• ICA Diploma in AML, ACAMS CAMS, CCAS or CGSS.
• Experience with blockchain analytics and wallet-screening tools.
• Exposure to BVI, Cayman, Bermuda, UAE (VARA, FSRA, DFSA) or EU (MiCA) regimes.
• Experience with fund structures and investor onboarding.
• French, Spanish, Portuguese, German or Mandarin.
TERMS
Contractor engagement with Statera Labs Ltd (BVI), invoiced monthly. Six-month trial period as Compliance Officer and deputy MLRO; the MLRO appointment follows confirmation and is notified to the BVI FSC. Remote, with consistent overlap with European and UAE hours.
