Controller (Remote | Real Estate Portfolio | Full-Time) We are seeking an experienced Controller to take ownership of the financial operations for a growing residential real estate portfolio. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in building structure, driving efficiency, and owning the financial close process end-to-end. About the Business We manage a residential real estate portfolio with a lean but capable finance team. The current team includes a CFO and three staff accountants, and we are now looking to bring in a strong Controller to elevate our financial reporting and streamline processes. The Role As Controller, you will take the lead in managing day-to-day accounting operations and driving a faster, more efficient monthly close. You'll work closely with the CFO while overseeing transaction accuracy, reporting, and process improvements. This is a hands-on role for someone who can both execute and optimize. Key Responsibilities Own the monthly financial close process end-to-end Manage and oversee QuickBooks Online (QBO) transactions and reporting Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data across all accounts Build and maintain financial reports and dashboards Improve workflows to achieve: 10-day close within 3 months 5-day close within 6 months Collaborate with the CFO and support the existing accounting team Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements Requirements Proven experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant owning the full close process Strong expertise in QuickBooks Online Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets (modeling, formulas, reporting) Solid understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles Experience with real estate accounting , including mortgages and/or insurance (highly preferred) Strong attention to detail and accuracy What We're Looking For High level of critical thinking and ownership Ability to analyze, problem-solve, and improve systems Someone who doesn't just maintain processes—but makes them better Strong communicator who can work effectively with leadership What Success Looks Like Full ownership of financial operations in QBO Clean, accurate, and reliable reporting Achieving a 10-day close within 3 months and a 5-day close within 6 months A more streamlined, scalable finance function
