Description

The Crane Product Manager serves as the day-to-day steward of NCCER’s Crane, Rigger, and Signal Person product line, ensuring the product is executed in alignment with the organization’s strategic vision. This role is accountable to lead the growth and profitability of NCCER crane certification products by expanding industry partnerships, increasing candidate volume, and ensuring programs meet employer workforce needs and regulatory requirements.


The Product Manager is responsible for:

  • Translating executive strategy into an actionable product roadmap and day-to-day priorities.
  • Gathering customer feedback, market intelligence, and product performance data to develop informed recommendations.
  • Coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure product enhancements are delivered effectively.
  • Managing the ongoing prioritization of features, enhancements, bug fixes, and customer requests.
  • Identifying risks, tradeoffs, and opportunities, and bringing thoughtful recommendations to leadership for key decisions.
  • Monitoring product adoption, customer satisfaction, and business performance to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Serving as the primary point of accountability for the product’s day-to-day health and execution.

Product Strategy

  • Own the crane certification product portfolio.
  • Develop annual growth strategy and revenue targets in conjunction with executive leadership team.
  • Identify gaps in crane certification offerings.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulations, and workforce demands.
  • Build product roadmaps for new certifications and endorsements.
  • Get NCCER crane certifications written into state standards and/or requirements

Market Development

  • Identify target customer segments.
  • Perform competitive analysis and develop marketing and sales plan in conjunction with marketing and sales team.
  • Gather customer feedback, data, and industry insights to develop actionable recommendations for product and platform improvement along with potential technology investments.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities.

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Partner with marketing and sales teams to drive endorsement and certification adoption.
  • Develop sales tools, pricing models, and value propositions.
  • Work with BD to create growth plans for key accounts.

Industry Partnerships

  • Build relationships with crane manufacturers, rental companies, contractors, owners, and other relevant industry groups.
  • Represent NCCER at crane industry meetings, conferences, and standard-writing meetings to serve as a knowledgeable and credible voice for NCCER’s products, credentials, and industry perspective

Operations & Quality

  • Monitor certification volumes and pass rates.
  • Evaluate program performance.
  • Ensure consistency and quality standards.
  • Drive improvements in candidate experience.

Financial Management

  • Manage P&L for crane certification programs.
  • Work with BD and finance to forecast revenue and expenses.
  • Develop pricing recommendations.
  • Analyze profitability by market and product line.

Track and Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Revenue

  • Annual certification and endorsement revenue growth
  • Average revenue per customer

Market Growth

  • Number of new endorsed organizations
  • Number of active organizations

Certification Activity

  • Number of certifications issued
  • Recertification volume
Requirements
  • 7-10+ years’ experience in construction industry, workforce development, crane, industrial services, or heavy equipment industries.
  • Experience launching and managing products or programs.
  • Demonstrated revenue growth responsibility.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Significant experience managing or supporting complex, customer-facing products or programs in a technical, regulated, or industrial environment (crane, heavy equipment, construction, or adjacent industries strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with owners, operators, contractors, and industry stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact
  • Experience representing an organization externally at industry meetings, conferences, advisory councils, or standards-setting bodies
  • Proven experience translating customer needs, feedback, and market insights into actionable product roadmaps, platform enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills

  • Experience with market analysis, competitive intelligence, business planning and pricing strategy
  • Documented success with program/product management, process improvement, budget management and data analysis
  • Strong background in sales enablement and customer development
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product development, engineering, assessment, marketing, sales, and operations teams in a matrixed organization
  • Comfort operating in a highly hands-on role that includes customer onboarding, operational problem-solving, data updates, and coordination of technical issue resolution
  • Ability to support and contribute to revenue growth through collaboration with sales and marketing, including experience working toward defined sales or revenue targets
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, executives, and internal teams
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Proficiency with business and productivity tools such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and other product or project management tools
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment
