Deal Desk Analyst
Montage Commodities · Reports to: Head, Structured Trades and Origination Desk
· Full-time · Remote (Pakistan or UAE) or Dubai office
THE ROLE
Montage Commodities is hiring an analyst to support the head of its Structured Trades and Origination Desk, who also runs special projects for the Chairman. The desk trades and finances fertilisers, petrochemicals and other bulk commodities, and handles the shipping, legal and counterparty work that follows. We are a lean, technology-forward team. Your job is to own the follow-through, so the desk lead spends their time on negotiation and judgement.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Calls and minutes
Produce accurate minutes, briefs and action lists from calls and meetings. Mark clearly what was said and what is inferred.
Follow-up
Keep one tracker of open actions across all deals and matters. Send chasers, flag slippage, and prepare a weekly status note.
Chairman's office
Draft first versions of updates, readouts, one-pagers and meeting agendas for the desk lead to finalise.
Deal analysis
Maintain the deal ledger and price trackers. Model returns, IRR and cost of funds for review. Assemble counterparty KYC and onboarding packs.
Shipping and disputes
Compile charter party, bill of lading, invoice and statement-of-facts files. Do first-pass demurrage and invoice checks. Keep correspondence logs and evidence folders in order for counsel.
Company admin
Support company formation, bank account and KYC requests. Prepare outgoing invoices.
Ways of working
Own the filing structure and look for better, faster ways to run the desk, including new tools.
MUST HAVE
- A generalist degree from a top university, such as PPE, liberal arts, economics or international relations
- About 2 years' experience at a trading house, bank, consultancy, advisory firm or fast-moving startup
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills: comfortable with financial maths, IRR, unit economics and Excel models
- A genuine interest in AI and new technology, and the curiosity to put it to work
- Thinks outside the box: moves easily between trading, shipping, legal and new projects, and looks for a better way rather than repeating the old one
- Precise written English: a clean one-page brief from a messy call
- Proven discretion with confidential commercial and legal material
NICE TO HAVE
- Working knowledge of trade documents: LC, bill of lading, charter party, demurrage, Incoterms, KYC
- Exposure to fertilisers, petrochemicals or shipping operations
- Urdu, for calls with Pakistan-based counterparts
- Availability across Pakistan, UAE and Singapore working hours
FIRST 90 DAYS
- Month 1: own call minutes and the master action tracker
- Month 2: take over document control and the weekly status note
- Month 3: run deal models, KYC packs, shipping files and admin end to end
