Design Manager - Water Infrastructure
Shape critical water infrastructure. Lead talented teams. Create a lasting impact for Queensland communities.
At Aurecon, we are engineering optimists who see the world differently. We ask what is possible and turn ideas into impact. Here, you will bring your design leadership to challenges that matter, alongside people who think boldly, collaborate openly and are determined to make a difference.
Join our Queensland Water team and help deliver resilient, sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure for communities across the state. This is an opportunity to lead complex, multidisciplinary design, influence how projects are delivered and work with clients who are shaping the future of water security and essential services.
What you will do
As a Design Manager, based in Brisbane or Maroochydore, you will lead the technical and design integration of water infrastructure projects from concept through detailed design and delivery. You will create clarity across disciplines, build trusted client relationships and enable teams to produce practical, high-quality outcomes.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams delivering water and wastewater treatment, pipelines, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
• Translate client requirements and project objectives into clear design strategies, coordinated deliverables and confident technical decisions.
• Partner with project managers to manage scope, programme, budget, quality, interfaces and design risk.
• Work collaboratively with clients including Seqwater, Unitywater, Urban Utilities, local councils and government agencies.
• Create an environment where people can do their best work through mentoring, constructive challenge, continuous learning and inclusive leadership.
Your experience and expertise
• A relevant engineering qualification, with Chartered status and RPEQ registration preferred or a clear pathway toward registration.
• Demonstrated experience leading or managing the design of water and wastewater infrastructure, ideally across concept and detailed design.
• Sound knowledge of Australian water industry standards, design assurance, safety in design and technical governance.
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the confidence to align diverse disciplines, resolve competing priorities and guide decisions.
• A collaborative, strategic and solutions-focused approach, together with a genuine commitment to quality, innovation and developing others.
Why Aurecon?
You will join a connected water practice with access to an extensive network of technical specialists, major programmes and varied career pathways across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. You will have the opportunity to shape the role around your strengths, grow your leadership profile and contribute to projects that make life better for people and the planet.
We support flexible ways of working, including part-time and job-share arrangements, and provide mentoring, learning opportunities, wellbeing support and career development at every stage. Most importantly, you will be part of a team where your perspective is valued, your voice is heard and great work is achieved together.
Ready to engineer possibilities?
If you are an experienced design leader who wants to create meaningful outcomes, grow talented teams and help shape Queensland's water future, we would love to hear from you. We value diverse career experiences and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.
