Lead Civil Engineer - Water Infrastructure
Lead city-shaping water infrastructure. Influence major projects. Build your legacy across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
At Aurecon, we are engineering optimists who see the world differently. We ask what is possible and turn ideas into impact. Here, you will bring your civil engineering expertise to challenges that matter, alongside people who think boldly, collaborate openly and are determined to make a difference.
Join our growing Queensland Water team and take a visible leadership role in delivering the infrastructure that supports safe, reliable and sustainable water services across Brisbane, Greater Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. You will work on a strong pipeline of medium, large and major projects for leading water utilities, government agencies and delivery partners, with the opportunity to influence technical direction from feasibility and concept design through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
What you will do
As a Lead Civil Engineer based in Brisbane or Maroochydore, you will be a senior technical leader within our Queensland Water practice. You will lead complex civil design, shape project strategy, guide multidisciplinary teams and become a trusted adviser to clients delivering critical infrastructure across South East Queensland. This is a role with genuine influence, strong project visibility and the support of an experienced, connected team.
• Lead the civil design of major water and wastewater pipelines, treatment facilities, pumping stations, storage systems and associated infrastructure.
• Set the technical direction on complex projects, providing senior-level judgement, design leadership and practical solutions that clients can rely on.
• Guide projects through feasibility, options assessment, concept and detailed design, with opportunities to support construction and commissioning.
• Apply relevant Australian standards and water industry requirements, including WSA codes, SEQ Code and applicable Australian Standards.
• Mentor engineers and designers, review technical work and foster a collaborative culture where people can learn, contribute and do their best work.
• Build trusted relationships with Queensland water utilities, local councils, government agencies and contractor partners to deliver resilient, cost-effective solutions for Brisbane and Sunshine Coast communities.
Your experience and expertise
• A relevant civil engineering qualification and substantial experience leading the design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Strong capability in civil design and hydraulic analysis for water and wastewater networks, pipelines, treatment facilities and related infrastructure.
• Experience across several stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through detailed design and delivery.
• A solid understanding of design assurance, safety in design, relevant regulatory obligations and Australian water industry standards.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status and RPEQ registration are desirable, or a commitment and clear pathway to achieving them.
• A confident, collaborative and client-focused leadership style, with the credibility to influence senior stakeholders, navigate complexity and bring diverse disciplines together.
How we support your growth
You will join a well-established Queensland Water practice with a strong local project pipeline, long-standing client relationships and access to deep technical expertise. You will have the autonomy to shape your role around your strengths, influence how we deliver our most important projects, mentor the next generation of engineers and grow your profile as a recognised water infrastructure leader in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
We support flexible ways of working, including part-time and job-share arrangements, and provide mentoring, learning opportunities, wellbeing support and career development at every stage. You will be part of an inclusive team where your perspective is valued, your voice is heard and great work is achieved together.
Ready to engineer possibilities?
If you are a senior civil engineer ready for greater influence, or an established lead seeking a strong local project pipeline and a team where your expertise will be valued, we would love to hear from you. Join us and help shape the water infrastructure that Brisbane and Sunshine Coast communities will rely on for generations. We value diverse career experiences and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.
