Show job description
Are you a results-oriented leader who thrives on delivering high-quality software for strategically important Defense programs? In this role, you will lead the software delivery capacity needed by a high-profile program, working closely with stakeholders across the organization to ensure reliable delivery and long-term collaboration. Come join us!

We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth and demanding changes. We continue to evolve our advanced technologies and mission critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industry to deliver real-world solutions that matter to the security of people on land, at sea and in the air. Therefore, we are looking for a Director to become part of this journey and contribute to our overall purpose – securing people through advanced technology.

Your role as part of the team

As our new Director, you will establish and grow a software department that provides the capacity needed for a strategically important defense program. Initially, the organization will consist of a manager, architects, and other key personnel. From this core team, you will build the department by recruiting and developing the people and teams needed to deliver high-quality software as the program evolves. Close collaboration with the program organization will be essential, including working with the Program Manager and Project Managers to align priorities, capacity, dependencies, and delivery expectations. You will also work closely with the Director of a neighbouring department to strengthen collaboration and support the long-term development of both departments.

In our team, we take pride in developing people and technology. You will become part of a collaborative leadership environment where accountability, psychological safety, continuous learning, and innovation are highly valued. We care about the work we do and the people behind it.

Technical skills matter, but your mindset matters even more. If you are a result oriented, strategic and pragmatic leader who enjoys empowering others, building trust, and creating clarity in complex environments, you could be a great addition to our team.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

In this role, you will contribute to a range of tasks across your area of responsibility. Your key responsibilities include:

    • Build the department from an initial core team recruiting and developing the organization and leadership capacity needed to deliver for the program.
    • Create a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on delivery, quality, accountability, continuous learning, and improvement.
    • Ensure close collaboration between the project organization—including the Program Manager, Project Managers, and Lead System Engineers—and the department’s own delivery teams.
    • Ensure transparency towards the program by making the department’s delivery progress, risks, issues, and relevant trade-offs visible and communicated in a timely manner.
    • Work closely with the Director of the neighboring department to coordinate priorities, strengthen collaboration, and ensure the long-term development of both departments.

Bring your expertise into play

To thrive in this role, we imagine that you bring some of the following qualifications:

    • Relevant degree or equivalent experience, ideally combined with experience in software development, systems engineering, or the defense domain.
    • Leadership experience at manager or director level, with a proven track record of delivering results in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional dependencies.
    • Experience with project management and an understanding of how software delivery organizations collaborate with project organizations in complex delivery environments.
    • Proven ability to build and scale an organization from an initial core team, establish effective leadership, and create a strong focus on delivery and quality.
    • A good understanding of software delivery and quality, with the ability to engage effectively with technical specialists and make sound decisions without needing to be the deepest technical expert.
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work closely with program and project leadership and other stakeholders; create clarity, alignment, and accountability across technical and non-technical audiences; and work effectively in a hybrid setup combining waterfall project management and agile software development.

Most importantly, we believe diverse experiences add value to our team and organization. Therefore, we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all the above requirements.

As we are an international organization, it is important that you are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level.
