Help Shape the Future of South Yorkshire's Public Services and Transport Network
At the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), we're delivering transformational change on a scale rarely seen in local government.
From introducing Bus Franchising across South Yorkshire by September 2027 to modernising digital services, improving customer experiences, harnessing the power of data and transforming how services are delivered, we're investing in technology and innovation to create a stronger, greener and fairer region.
We're looking for talented Business Analysts to join our Digital & Technology Services (DTS) team and play a pivotal role in some of the most exciting and complex programmes currently underway.
This is an opportunity to work at the centre of major transformation initiatives, helping shape how services operate, how technology is delivered and how customers experience public services across South Yorkshire. Your work won't just improve processes and systems, it will directly support services used by millions of people every year.
Applications must be accompanied by a cover letter to detail how you meet the criteria as detailed within the role profile (please see role profile attached). Please note, all applications should be made directly via our careers portal.
About the role
As a DTS Business Analyst, you'll act as the vital link between operational teams, stakeholders and technology specialists, ensuring business needs are understood, challenged and translated into effective solutions.
Working across major programmes such as Bus Franchising, you'll help define future operating models, improve services, support procurement and technology implementation projects, and ensure successful business change across the organisation.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Influence the design of future services that will support South Yorkshire's Bus Franchising programme and wider organisational transformation.
- Work with stakeholders across customer services, transport operations, finance, data, digital and business change.
- Lead workshops, gather insights and turn complex challenges into practical solutions.
- Help shape business processes, operating models and service designs that improve efficiency and customer outcomes.
- Play a key role in ensuring programmes are successfully delivered through testing, readiness and implementation activities.
About you
Success in this role will come from a combination of curiosity, analytical thinking and a passion for continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be able to navigate complexity, build strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders and translate business needs into practical solutions that support organisational goals.
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- The ability to build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Resilience and adaptability within fast-paced and evolving environments.
- A genuine interest in transformation, innovation and delivering positive organisational outcomes.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and engaging way.
Why Join SYMCA?
Few organisations can offer the opportunity to contribute to projects of this scale and significance whilst seeing the direct impact of your work on communities across an entire region.
At SYMCA, you'll be joining an organisation with ambitious plans, significant investment in digital and technology services, and a culture built around collaboration, integrity, ambition and accountability.
In return, you'll benefit from:
- The opportunity to help deliver one of the UK's most ambitious public transport transformation programmes.
- Meaningful work that supports the future of South Yorkshire.
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
- A collaborative environment where ideas are encouraged and innovation is valued.
- Excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression.
