Job Description

EMEA Tax Manager

Location: Ireland | Individual Contributor | Reports to: EMEA Tax Director

Join us at Zendesk, where we're on a mission to power exceptional service for every person on the planet. We're accelerating that ambition by building products rooted in AI, automation, and intelligent customer experiences, because behind every interaction lies an opportunity to make a human connection.

We’re seeking an EMEA Tax Manager to help run and scale our regional tax function. In this role, you’ll help Zendesk grow responsibly by ensuring strong tax compliance, reporting, governance, and planning across EMEA - while bringing practical, technology-enabled ways of working to a complex and evolving tax landscape.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead EMEA corporate tax compliance, reporting, and governance, coordinating internal partners and external advisers to deliver accurate, timely filings and documentation.
  • Manage R&D tax-credit claims in Ireland, Poland, and Portugal, and assess eligibility for incentives and credits in other EMEA jurisdictions.
  • Lead regional tax-accounting activities, including provision inputs and cash-tax planning, in partnership with the global Tax team and teams across Finance.
  • Monitor the Group’s transfer-pricing framework across EMEA and advise on cross-border transactions and related tax matters.
  • Support EMEA Pillar Two, Country-by-Country Reporting, and public CbCR processes, including data collection, analysis, and documentation.
  • Lead the response to tax authority enquiries, manage the tax audit process and assess any potential risks or exposures.
  • Review and lead workstreams relating to indirect tax matters, including responses to changing tax requirements such as e-invoicing.
  • Lead tax workstreams for acquisitions, entity restructurings, cash repatriation, and other strategic projects.
  • Strengthen tax controls, documentation, data quality, and operational processes; identify and implement opportunities to use automation and AI to improve efficiency and insight.

What you bring to the role

  • Deep technical judgment across corporate and international tax, with the ability to turn complex or non-routine issues into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Experience managing multi-country EMEA tax workstreams, external advisers, and deadlines in a fast-moving multinational environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Irish taxes, with practical exposure to tax accounting, transfer pricing, indirect tax, tax audits, and cross-border reporting requirements.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build trusted partnerships with senior stakeholders across Tax, Accounting, Legal, Treasury, and the wider Finance organization.
  • Strong analytical, spreadsheet, and financial-systems skills, with a focus on improving data quality and creating scalable processes.
  • Comfort using AI-enabled tools and automation to improve the speed and quality of tax work. You validate outputs, understand AI’s limitations and risks, and use approved tools responsibly to protect sensitive company and customer information.
  • Clear communication, sound planning and follow-through, high attention to detail, and a practical, self-directed approach.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of corporate or international tax experience, including 3+ years in-house or in industry supporting a multinational organization across multiple EMEA jurisdictions.
  • AITI/CTA qualification, or an equivalent professional tax qualification with substantial corporate and international tax expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience with corporate tax compliance and reporting, including managing external advisers and statutory deadlines.
  • Experience supporting tax accounting/provision processes, transfer pricing, and cross-border tax matters.
  • Experience using spreadsheets, tax technology, or workflow tools to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and control of tax processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Big Four firm before moving in-house.
  • Experience with R&D tax-credit claims, particularly in Ireland, Poland, and/or Portugal.
  • Knowledge of Pillar Two, Country-by-Country Reporting, public CbCR, and evolving e-invoicing requirements.
  • Experience supporting tax due diligence, M&A integration, entity restructurings, or cash-repatriation projects.
  • Experience evaluating or applying AI and automation in tax workflows, with appropriate review, confidentiality, and data-security controls.
