Financial Accountant
Accounting and Finance | Financial Accounting
Inner Melbourne | Hybrid, 4 days in office | 3 to 6 month contract | $50 to $60 per hour plus super
An established business in the built environment is bringing on a contract Financial Accountant to support its finance team through a busy period. This is an immediate start with a defined three to six month scope.
The business operates on a project basis, so finance sits close to how revenue and margin are reported. The team needs an experienced accountant who can step in and carry real workload from the first week.

The business operates on a project basis, so finance sits close to how revenue and margin are reported. The team needs an experienced accountant who can step in and carry real workload from the first week.
The Role
- Supports the month end close, including journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepares and maintains work in progress schedules across active projects
- Assists with revenue recognition on contracts recognised over time
- Supports project reporting and cost to complete analysis alongside the commercial team
- Helps with year end and audit requirements where needed
- Works closely with the Financial Controller throughout the busy period
Background Required
- CA or CPA qualified, or close to completion
- Solid financial accounting experience, ideally in construction, property or another project based business
- Working knowledge of AASB 15 and revenue recognised over time
- Comfortable joining an established team and contributing quickly
- Available to start immediately
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software
- $50 to $60 per hour plus super, depending on experience.
- A three to six month contract with an immediate start.
- Hybrid working, four days in the office and one from home.
- Hands on exposure to project based financial accounting that strengthens any finance profile.
