FRACTIONAL EXECUTIVE CHIEF OF STAFF (Legal, Strategy & Executive Operations)
Engagement Type: Fractional Executive / Contract
Initial Term: 6 months
Reporting: Directly to Founder & CEO
Expected Commitment: 10–15 working days per month
Location: Lagos, Nigeria, with flexibility for selected in-person meetings and strategic engagements.
1. ROLE PURPOSE
TITL Venture Studio seeks a high-calibre Fractional Executive Chief of Staff to work directly with the Founder & CEO across strategic priorities, executive coordination, legal/commercial matters, venture portfolio oversight and execution.
The Chief of Staff will serve as a trusted executive adviser and execution partner, helping the CEO:
2. WHY TITL IS CREATING THE ROLE
TITL is developing a substantial venture-studio portfolio of technology ventures/startups at varying stages. As the portfolio grows, the CEO faces increasing complexity across product development and coordination, venture prioritization, corporate structures, IP, capital, investors, partnerships, venture strategy, product direction, corporate relationships, high-value commercial opportunities, strategic hiring, board-level matters, contracts, business development, investment and capital requirements, legal/regulatory matters, executive decision-making and portfolio reporting.
The Chief of Staff will create an executive control layer between the CEO’s strategic direction and organizational execution. The purpose is not bureaucracy, but ensuring the CEO concentrates on decisions where the CEO creates the highest enterprise value.
3. CANDIDATE PROFILE
Ideal profile:
A commercially minded lawyer with strong strategic judgment who can operate as a smart business executive.
The candidate must move comfortably between:
Legal → Strategy → Commercial → Operations → Executive, High-Level Decision-Making.
They should be able to sit with the CEO in strategic meetings, understand the commercial opportunity, identify legal implications, challenge weak assumptions and ensure agreed decisions are executed.
4. REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Essential
Strongly preferred
C-level experience or significant senior exposure in technology companies, SaaS, AI/software businesses, startups, venture capital, private equity, corporate development, management consulting, strategy, business advisory, investment transactions, technology/IP law or executive management.
Preferred career progression:
Corporate/Commercial Lawyer → Senior Associate/Legal Manager → Strategy/Commercial/Operations exposure → Executive or startup leadership.
The candidate must ask not only:
“Is this legally permissible?”
but also:
“Is this commercially sensible, strategically valuable and consistent with TITL’s objectives?”
5. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
A. CEO Strategic Support
B. Venture Portfolio Coordination
Maintain an executive-level view of the portfolio and be able to answer:
“Where are we with each venture, what is the problem, and what decision is required?”
Track:
C. Legal & IP Coordination
Act as the first executive coordination layer for:
Specialist external counsel remains responsible for matters requiring specialist legal advice.
D. Executive Operations
Develop and maintain systems for CEO meetings, decision tracking, strategic projects, executive actions, reporting, escalation, portfolio reviews and risk management.
The objective is an Executive Operating System for the CEO’s office.
E. Strategic Projects
Handle high-priority projects involving new ventures, strategic partnerships, market expansion, investment opportunities, corporate restructuring, technology commercialization, business development and international opportunities.
6. AUTHORITY
The Chief of Staff receives defined delegated authority, not unlimited authority.
Within approved limits, the Chief of Staff may independently handle:

A formal Delegation of Authority & CEO Absence Policy will define the boundaries.
7. CEO ABSENCE
When the CEO is unavailable, the Chief of Staff may represent the CEO only within delegated authority.
Responsibilities:
The Chief of Staff does not automatically become CEO during the CEO’s absence.

9. ENGAGEMENT STRUCTURE
Initial term: 6 months.
Commitment: 10–15 working days per month.
The arrangement should be output-oriented rather than strictly time-based.
Working model:
The Chief of Staff should remain reasonably reachable for genuinely urgent matters.
10. COMPENSATION
Monthly retainer: Attractive.
Performance incentive: Potential six-month performance bonus of up to 2.5–5% of annualized retainer, based on measurable deliverables.
Equity: A future equity or long-term incentive arrangement may be considered if the individual successfully transitions to a full-time executive role.
