The Role

As we scale our UK sportsbook and casino, we're hiring a Fraud and Payments Manager based in Malta to own our fraud prevention and payment operations end to end, reporting to our Head of Compliance.

This is a broad role. You'll set the strategy for detecting and stopping fraud, dealing with chargebacks and strategising and staying ahead of bonus abuse and multi-accounting. You'll run the day-to-day health of our payments stack, and you'll own the relationships with our PSPs.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who likes finding patterns in data, enjoys making decisions quickly, and wants to run a function inside a fast-paced startup, expanding internationally.

About Stakemate

Founded in summer 2022, Stakemate is revolutionising sports betting by putting rewarding features and seamless interfaces at the forefront. We're a profitable startup that's grown over 15x in the last year, and we're just getting started.

Recognised by EGR as one of the most innovative startups in gaming, we're scaling fast and shaping the next generation of sports entertainment. We've built a product that users genuinely love, with unlimited betting group chats, multi-game bet builders, and an experience designed for how people actually want to bet: together.

Revolut disrupted Barclays, Robinhood disrupted Etrade, and Stakemate is executing in the same way to take on the traditional gaming sector.

What We're Looking For

Must-have

• 4+ years in fraud, payments or risk within betting, gaming, fintech or e-commerce.

• Hands-on experience with card payments and PSPs, including bonus abuse, chargeback handling, disputes and representation.

• Strong working knowledge of fraud typologies

• Comfortable working with large amounts of data

• Good understanding of UKGC requirements that touch payments

• Right to live and work in Malta.

Nice-to-have

• Experience in a fast-paced startup or consumer tech environment.

• Familiarity with card scheme monitoring programmes

• Experience with fraud scoring or rules-engine tools, and with analytics tools

• Exposure to other regulated markets, such as Ontario (AGCO/iGO), as we look to expand beyond the UK.

You

• Sceptical by default: you notice when numbers look too good, and you ask why before anyone else does.

• Data-led: you make calls from evidence, measure whether controls work, and change them when they don't.

• Commercially minded: you get that the goal is stopping bad actors without adding friction for the genuine customers we want to keep.

• Hands-on: you're comfortable in the detail, including case reviews, transaction analysis and rule tuning, not just managing from afar.

• AI-first: you look for ways to automate detection and reporting before reaching for more headcount.

What You'll Do

• Own and lead our fraud prevention strategy and controls across sign-up, deposits, promotions and withdrawals.

• Detect, investigate and act on fraud and bonus abuse

• Manage chargebacks end to end

• Own the day-to-day running of our payments operations

• Design and tune fraud rules and risk scoring, working with product and engineering

• Work closely with AML, safer gambling, marketing and player experience teams

• Report on fraud, chargeback and payment KPIs and risk trends to senior leadership.

• Own relationships with our fraud and payment providers, end to end.

What We Offer

• A competitive salary, plus stock options after completing probation.

• A rare opportunity to join one of the UK's most exciting sports betting startups in the early stages.

• A clear progression path into Head of Fraud and Payments.

Working Setup

• A Malta-based role: 2-3 days a week in the office with our Compliance Team, remote the rest of the week.
